Predicting :CAN to finish 3rd. Two near misses today would be so fitting to cap off a disappointing day of Olympic qualifying (marathon, and 3x3 basketball were the others)

Great news for India 🇮🇳...

The men's relay team for India who had finished 5th at the world Championship and broken the 3 minute mark several times was expected to qualify .. The only uncertainty was that Rajesh ramesh who does the anchor leg often had pulled out  in the prelims of men's ( he had run the mixed). So it was a relief to get through

The women's was going to be iffy.... So it was great news for India....

We did not take part in the mixed to ensure these qualifications... Do not understand the logic of world athletics.....

We had to sacrifice mixed relay due to such short turnaround time & it worked.

That one change rule in mixed relay must be looked at.

We now have both the men’s & Women’s 4x400 relay teams qualified

The men were always expected to qualify bad luck costed us a place in the final.
We got a lucky draw with our heats in Women’s else it would have been hard to qualify.
Still qualifying 2/3 teams here is a fantastic achievement.

In fairness several other countries doubled up athletes.

The one change rule is to try to prevent the same countries winning it all the time.

If the US can change out all 4 each time it gives them a huge advantage. Frankly, I'd be okay with limiting the number of changes that can be made in the men's/women's events as well. Maybe 2 changes between heat and final.

I'd maybe change it to being 1 change per gender in the mixed though.

:FRA will remain with 4 relays out of 5, let's hope we qualify by June 30.

We missed Thomas Jordier this evening, injured last night and could well miss the Olympics if we qualify the relay at the end of June

    • Weightlifting formula is more or less similar to 2020 which was considered terrible by everybody!    this is a tough sport, you can't be in your best shape for too many events. there will be risks of serious injuries this way. with these rules you need 5 good results to qualify. if you bomb out in an event to score a zero you are out of the Olympics unless you replace it with another event. which means most of these poor guys have to participate in 7-8 events (and not just 5) to make up for possible bomb outs.    most importantly if you get injured anytime during this period (almost 2 years) you are out of the Olympics! that's how Sohrab Moradi missed the Tokyo Olympics despite breaking the WR during the qualification period. you can miss the Olympics in 2028 if you get injured late 2026 !  Karlos Nasar couldn't win the Olympic title if we had these rules in 2024   I understand 2024 qualification formula wasn't great either, it had its own flaws but this one is much worse for threatening athletes' health.
