Track Cycling 2024 Discussion Thread

Ellesse Andrews grandfather is Scottish and he got asked if there's a possibility Andrews could join GB (as a joke) thanks to the Richardson bombshell on NZ radio. He replies, "Like hell she is, I'm Scottish not British". Just to add the grandfather is from Glasgow, one area that is pro independence. Hahaha got to laugh.

At the end of the day who knows what the situation will be like in 4 years time, there could be a new sprint star that is neither him or Lavreysen for all we know.

The Australian team sprint squad was on a downward trend anyway because Glaetzer is clearly past his best which was easily seen at these games.

GB cycling obviously saw the medals he won, his talent and birth country, got into contact with him and gave him a more lucrative deal. Track cycling is a bigger/more important sport there and their cyclists get more funding.

Because if it was always his ‘dream’ why didn’t he make the move earlier on? He has been competing since 2019

And also can they please take Raygun aswell? I beg

To be fair, reading up on Richardson he's been pretty torn about this for a while, it's not some new fangled thing. The fact he has a star cyclist Welsh girlfriend however, that's brilliant work by the GB Cycling entrapement department! Well done, agent finucane.

Love to see him lose his Australian passport. I hate this stuff. He should surrender his Australian citizenship if he was an honest man.

Looks like he had been planning this for a while but as too gutless to say so before the Olympics as he may have been deselected

Part honey trap. part money. GB track cycling has a big budget, Australia not so much

OR he has been planning this for a while, and was honest enough to race for australia at the olympics and win them a sack full of medals getting them a good return for their investment.

If you think team Australia didn't know that he had applied to switch to GB pre olympics then you should wise up.

He's now representing a European country, which for friend @rajiv now automatically means he is among the worst people on Earth. I'm surprised he isn't calling for Richardson to be banned.

Apparently they didn’t know. But some at GB did.

Yeah, the way I see it, is that he is equally proud to be British and Australian and was always intending to compete for both nations at some point in his career. I would assume that, given he has started dating Finucane :GBR, he thought he would speed up that process and hope to give himself a kickstart into the GB set up.

The Australian track bike from Paris cost around $100,000 so their budget would seem to be pretty healthy in the grand scheme of things

    • Canoe Sprint There is a now a cap of 5 athletes per gender in the kayak events (down from 6 in 2024). The World Championships has been replaced by the Olympic Qualification Rankings.   K2 lost 2 boat quotas while K4 has gained 1 boat quota. Quota distribution is quite complicated as it usually is for canoe sprint. They also force nations to compete in a minimum number of events based on the number of athletes qualified; 2 and 3 athletes per boat class must compete in 2 events, 4 must compete in all 3 events and 5 must compete in all 3 events and have two entries in the K1 event.
    • Wrestling will have a completely new format, I do not like the changes. ranking isn't really a good idea in this sport, this will force wrestlers to compete in so many events to collect points. which is not good for their health. specially with the current UWW ranking points distribution system which is plain stupid   they are also gifting 18 quotas to very weak countries by that last qualification event. but I understand their point of view. can't wait to see lots of Russian wrestlers compete for weak countries for that 1 available quota.
    • Canoe Slalom Quotas from men's/women's K1 have been moved to men's/women's KX1. K1 will now have 14 quotas while KX1 will have 10 quotas. C1 remains at 17 quotas. Athletes may participate in other events up to a maximum of 2 athletes per NOC.   The World Championship qualifier has been dropped in favour of the Olympic Qualification Rankings (7 K1, 10 C1, 3 KX1), afterwards you have the Continental Qualifiers (1 per boat) and then a new Global Qualifier (2 per boat).   There were a few changes regarding ways to ensure an athlete can only obtain 1 quota. The biggest being at each stage the boat priority is K1 > KX1 > C1 for the rankings and KX1 > K1 > C1 for the continental/global qualifiers. This basically means if the same athlete qualifiers in multiple boats then the quota will be given to the kayak over canoe.
    • I'll post significant changes periodically. I'll start with the recently added/updated documents.   Archery The addition of mixed compound (12M & 12W) forced a reduction on the recurve side. The mixed compound quotas are distributed as follows   Host - 1 World Championships - 3 Continental Games - 5 World Ranking List - 2 Final Qualifier - 1   To compensate the team events will now only have 8 nations. 2 quotas were removed from the World Ranking List and 2 were removed from the Final Qualifier.   Individual recurve and mixed recurve distribution is the same
    • In Rome, it would be useful to roof the swimming pool complex at Foro Italico, possibly with the option of retracting the roof and covering the tennis court complex. Overall, there's a lot to do, for example, compared to Budapest, but unfortunately, this is Italy How many years has Roma been building their new stadium, and they keep pushing back the completion date- now I read it's 2030? and it should be ready. The same goes for Milan- there should be a modern complex of indoor swimming pools with 50 meters pools, etc., but there's a problem with one stupid football stadium, which will only be built after an ultimatum from UEFA
