She chokes. Every time. That is TWO Olympics where she has completely flopped when she was the hot favourite. Do I expect her to win, no, I sure as anything expect better than 7th!

So yeah, the Australians seem to be losing their speed when it matters again. I'm starting to think Cate Campbell isn't going to win any individual gold here.

Bronte will win the 50m, Cate the 100m. Will be cracking races though.

She was not the hot favourite this time, she was one of the 2-3 main candidates, especially after winning 2 gold medals at last years world champs, proving that she's definitely not a typical choker.

I'm guessing it's more a matter of Aussie's peaking too early (again), because apart from Horton they're all disappointing so far. Before the Olympics I'd have said Australia had like 70-80% chance for the gold in both the 50 and especially 100 free, though those numbers have already started dropping after these first few days.

As one of the 2-3 contenders I expect better than 7th and a whole second below her PB! She was utterly hopeless today, that is an absolute choke. The world champs should have seen her at least medal here, although I'm almost glad she lost as the coverage about her and Larkin is close to unbearable. On the positive I have won money on the race lol.

The commentator on CBC said that if Efimova wins the gold medal the controversy will reach a high and that it's the IOC fault with their decision. It seems that the atmosphere is not good in Rio because of the Russians.

Obviously, but yeah, it looks like Verhaeren hasn't been able to teach his team how to peak properly after all (which is of course not that surprising when you see Campbell breaking a WR in the in-betweenseason...)

    • Many things, probably they thought it is already over and the win will come itself... but also Nitra improved their play a lot, they outplayed us in physicality in the last 2 games, they won almost every duel. Was hard to watch. Anyway I am still persuated we will finish the job at home with success on Tuesday
    • If you look at their results this season and on the Super Series, it’s not really that surprising.    I’d consider them to be medal contenders.
    • At one point it seemed we were making good progress in this sport, but in the past 1-2 years things seem to have hit a standstill..   Ivaylo Ivanov is still our only elite judoka, but he is passing 30. There were/are some promising youngsters, but they haven't been able to make a jump to the senior level. At this Euro we barely had any first round wins (not including Ivanov). In fencing and taekwondo the results are much more visible for us.
    • yes, but that's only an (important) episode... I mean, what's up with your team more in general...it looks like they got the classic "fear to win", they're not as brilliant as they were in the early games of the series
    • after a few leagues ended well before the true climax, now we have both leagues from the good, old Czechoslovakia going to game #7    shame that both games will be at the exact same time

    • what a missed chance for     but Giorgia Stangherlin first and Asya Tavano then (in the playoff match, having clearly won the "regular" match against the same opponent) wasted the biggest occasion we ever had in this kind of competition   moreover, in the final match of the "regular 6", Veronica Toniolo got a serious knee injury against Eteri Liparteliani (the match was into the golden score period): she was carted off on a stretcher, screaming in pain
