Fencing FIE World Cup 2023 - 2024

I'm still bummed, that we most likely won't qualify the team. :( It's our best generation in fencing in 35 years. Last time we had a team at the OG was in 1988. Even worse, that Ilieva could lose her individual quota, after she was focusing on the team battles this year and wasn't all there in her individual tournaments.

One last message on the Women`s Sabre World Cup in Athens.

One could see that, Ukrainian team weared black mourning armbands.

The reason - russians killed 12 people in their flats in Odessa on the 2nd of March. 5 of them were children: 4 months, 7 months, 3, 8 and 9 years old.

Multi-storey building was hit by "Shaheed" drone. It happened in the night, two mothers were killed trying to save their little babies. They were found hugging their children.

Two of the team-members  (Kravatska and Komashchuk) are from Odessa...

Our national federation posted that Yuval Frielich qualified for the Olympics, is it really official? Or just mathematically correct? If he qualifies how does that affect the participation in the last chance tournament?

He is mathematically certain to qualify because there are only 32 points up for grab and he has a bigger margin. That means there can't be any Israeli in men's epee at the qualification tournament.

So, according to my calculations, these 11 foil female fencers will try to snatch the second European quota by ranking:

:HUN Flora Pasztor, Kata Kondricz, Dora Lupkovics, Aida Mohamed

:AUT Olivia Wohlgemuth, Freya Cenker

:ROU Malina Calugareanu, Emilia Corbu

:GBR Carolina Stutchbury

:UKR Alina Poloziuk

:ESP Maria Teresa Diaz

The main favorite is Pasztor, but she'll need to beat Budenko, and, in the second round, Volpi. On the other hand, there is a really good draw for Carolina Stutchbury, who will face Guo Jessica Zia in second and Ariana Errigo in third, which can make her steal the quota from Pasztor. Malina Calugareanu will face Eleanor Harvey, which is obviously a bad draw for her. Other contenders need a final/medal and losses from rivals
