Freestyle Skiing FIS World Cup 2023 - 2024

Gold and silver for :CAN Hannah Schmidt and Marielle Thompson at the Nakiska WC :wub:

Edit: And another gold for Reece Howden! After the first few heats with Canadians medal contenders dropping out like flies (might be over exaggerating), thought it was going to be “one of those days” but I guess I was proven wrong.

By the way, in case you’re wondering why :SWE Sandra Naeslund withdrew from her semifinal, she apparently got “a slap on her knee” during the heats, and chose to get it examined rather than competing in further races.

A gold and a bronze doesn’t sound like a bad performance, but from a Canadian perspective, at a home WC it definitely is. Only one (!!) Canadian male advanced to the big/small finals (Carson Cook finished in 8th), and all of our heavy hitters bowed out in the quarterfinals. On the women’s side, business as always, although with Naeslund not competing there’s a bit of an asterix in my mind. Also felt the need to mention that there were only 14 entries, slightly lower than other WCs.

    • Ah, yes but that's not how pro athletes are taught in North America these days? Shut up & dribble is xenophobic, racist or whatever? The hypocrisy of some of these policies were exposed during 2022 World Cup already where the Saudis played it smart and waved their own "Free Palestine' slogans. Forget LGBT rights for a moment, how many 'Free Palestine' flags will be waved in 2026? Or will those be confiscated by default?
