We’ve had Olympic, world short course, European (LC + SC) but never a world long course medal

First ever at the world championships yes  

Wiffen finished 4th in both 800m and 1500m last year. Hoping he can bring home another medal in the 1500m.

Chinese anthem for a Hong Kong gold  

 

Is that a similar thing to Taiwan appearing as 'Chinese Taipei' in the world of sports, despite people knowing it's actually Taiwan?

Chinese Taipei has its own song for gold medalists, but its not the ROC national anthem.  That was all part of the deal with the PRC to allow Chinese Taipei to compete - they could not use their official national anthem (or flag). I would assume this was also the anthem pre-1949.
