Diving is arguably one of the best examples of how to "waste" Olympic quotas, along with creating a unclear qualification system.

It's wild to me that divers qualified in synchro don't have the automatic right to enter individual events. Plus, it wouldn't be the end of the world if nations could qualify composite teams for synchro.

Swimming isn't much better, but at least they made a sensible decision to allow additional entires into the open water events.

I also think that if 2 athletes qualified on individual they should also have the permission in the syncro...

And in the end, this thing is very messy. it doesn't make too much sense 2 athletes win quotas in syncro and then the same two win in individual and the country have the possibility of taking 4 athletes.... it should be like canoeing. If you win in syncro you can participate in the individual and open up quotas automatically.

On better news, I think Miller should just wait official confirmation, but she got a second spot for Canada in the individual event, with :IRL McGing now being first under the line.

Also :CUB  :DOM  :LAT  &. :USA should get confirmation of spaces for the individual events.

But no real chance of a quota for McGing?

As things stand, I think there are 26 individual athletes we can confidently say are going to be in the women's 10m platform events in Paris - this is likely to be an event where it is pretty safe to assume that the synchro athletes will also be selected for the individual event where they have qualified.

I wouldn't discount Eden Cheng getting in ahead of Tolson in the individual platform.

I had considered her as a possibility but when I went back through the domestic results, Cheng is consistently scoring well down on Toulson. That, coupled with the way that the GB selection document is written, gives Cheng her very little chance in my opinion.

Agree, and it's a little sad because Eden is a very fine diver, but such are the consequences of being such a strong nation in the sport - and GBR are arguably no 2 only to China at the moment, and certainly in the conversation along with Mexico and Italy. I think Lois' very strong result (6th overall in the world is no laughing matter) probably seals the deal for her, barring injury.

Ross Haslam may well face a similar dilemna of being a world class diver who may still end up as the loser in a threeway with Laugher and Goodfellow (or even one of two losers in a four way JL, DG and Houldon), as might Grace Reid, Matty Lee, Kyle Kothari etc

It's a very nice problem to have - as the late great Matthew Perry would say "My wallet's too small for my fifties, and my diamond shoes are too tight..."

    • It's good that Argentina is starting to get back on track economically. Every year, all of our alpine skiing teams train in August in Argentina in Ushuaia: "Fine del Mundo", as it advertises itself.
    • The relation of Trump with Russia and, more specific, with Putin is probably the most controversial (being generous) thing of the presidence of Trump, i dont believe the same but is clearly that China help democrats in that election, both are playing their games.   In Argentina the society is clearly divided, the people who are in the left side of the politics, peronist and kirchnerism are very against the goverment, propably the only genuine "rigth-wing" goverment since the recovery of the democracy in 1983. For me and the most part who are in the rigth wing: libertarians, nacionalist and conservatives, is probably the best goverment we see to this days, he made in his first year with a very few legislators in the congress some big and good changes:   1) In the economical: the inflation is only 3% per month since a more of 15% in the last months of the last year, Argentina has now fiscal, financial and comercial surplus-   2) Our country didnt have fighter planes and the goverment buy 24  American F16  -   3) He chances the electoral sistem for a "single ballot" sistem, we have an obsolete electoral sistem that doesnt change from the 19 century and specially, the peronist use for make fraud.   4) In my personal case, he really update the tax sistem for smal/medium profesionals and traders.......and that save us to pay the 50% of our earnings to the state.   With a big expectations in the goverment, its better than i thinked before.
    • It could be better, or it could be much worse, for example, if the accusations that he has been accepting large amounts of money from Russia since 2017 are confirmed. Now let Harris win, which will end Trump's political career and I hope that in 4 years the Republicans will put up someone more predictable.     btw, how is this controversial president of Argentina doing?
    • More predictable is not always better, for me the goverment of Biden was one of the worst of the History of USA and i cant imagine what can happen with even a worse version like Harris is.   I hope, for the contrary, Trump be elected and "may be" the things changes for the better in the world.
    • I once read that Harris had never been to Europe before 2020, when she became vice president. On the other hand, her foreign policy will be more predictable, because it will be a continuation of Biden's policies. That is why I hope Harris wins, although the bookmakers are betting on Trump.
    • Harris is totally green on foreign policy. It will probably be a policy 100% led by Biden's people. Harris' main campaign emphasis is on abortion and women's rights.
    • So much for "everybody's laughing at us if we elect Harris"
    • My favorite tennis tournaments of the year (wta/atp finals)
    • was also invited to the special edition of the Bolivarian Games and seems like  is not participating.
