Dorsaf Ganouati made history last Saturday when she became the first female to referee a top-level football match in Tunisia, overseeing a Tunisian league match in the city of Rades.

She started refereeing in 2011 and has been on FIFAs list of international referees since 2015.

we will have the last day of AFC Futsal U20 Championship in Tabriz, North West of Iran tomorrow. with Japan and Afghanistan in the final. so far this is no big deal just a great achievement for Afghanistan, they lost to Iran in preliminary round but they beat Thailand and Indonesia in knockout round. the host team Iran instead lost to Japan in extra time in other SF.

but this tournament made me (and so many other people) find out there is a very bad , unbelievably racist rule in Iran. there are so many Afghans living in Iran, legally or illegally. something like 1 or 2 millions. but now I found out they only can travel to certain provinces. and their presence is highly forbidden in some other provinces including the one hosting this event. it seems so many of them wanted to travel to Tabriz supporting their team but they can't do that legally. I didn't know about such a rule because fortunately this racist rule doesn't apply to where I live.

I really feel ashamed as Iranian about this. I really hope some of them at least can travel for tomorrow match and Afghanistan wins the title (which will be tough since Japan is a better team) ironically more than half of Afghan players here are living in Iran as refugee. and they needed "special permission" to travel to Tabriz for that !

PS: on the funny side. there is a player in Indonesian squad named "Filippo Inzaghi" :d  check #14 here

    • Out of curiosity, if your wife wanted to start for the Netherlands, what would her chances of participating in the games look like + possible financing from Ned skiing federation? This is a hypothetical question, of course.
    • Too bad I'm awful at recognizing people, but at least I recognized Klæbo and Niskanen on the track and thanks to the fact that the top athletes have bibs with their names, I've also recognized Golberg, Jenssen and Schumacher   Track is SO icy, it is unbelievable. Even walking on it was a major challenge yesterday. Gonna be super difficult to keep straight and everything Wednesday and Thursday.

    • Is this our first confirmed 2028 qualification pathway confirmed?   [World Taekwondo] World Taekwondo Changes Olympic Ranking Points Cycle   I think we were already aware that there would be a change to ranking system for LA. It's now confirmed that World Taekwondo are switching to a 2-year ranking cycle.    The first ranking period runs from July'24 - June'26 with the second period running from July'26 to June'28. Ranking points from the first phase will be used to determine entry and seeding for Grand Prix events in the second phase. Only the points acquired from July'26-June'28 will count towards Olympic qualification.    As per previous cycles, the top five athletes in each of the relevant weight categories based on the Olympic rankings published in January'28 will automatically qualify for the LA Olympics.    Another qualification criteria confirmed relates to the Grand Slam Champion Series. In previous qualification pathways, if the top ranked athlete in the Grand Slam merit points was also qualified through the Olympic rankings, the quota was reallocated to the next highest ranked Olympic athlete. For Los Angeles, this quota would be reallocated to the athlete ranked No. 2 in Grand Slam merit points.   If this athlete is also within the top-5 in the Olympic rankings, the quota will be given to the next highest ranked athlete in the Olympic rankings.
    • Brisbane 2032 Venues Announcement event 25 March 2025   Following completion of the 100-Day Games Review, the new Queensland Government has announced in this Courier Mail that it will announce the Brisbane 2032 Venues Plan on 25 March 2025 following consulations/approvals with Games stakeholders.   I hope that they can stick to this all-encompassing, consultations-complete timeline of 25 March. Perhaps this tight timeline is a real indication that changes to the existing overall Brisbane 2032 venues and infrastructure plan are not going to be widespread as was first thought ? I mean if the government were to support widespread changes to the Venues plan, then 17 days (8-25 March) is an awfully short period of time for consultations and approval with and from the IOC, affected international sport federations and government. So for this reason, I’m guessing that widespread venue changes and infrastructure projects will not be happening. Perhaps a new stadium for track and field, ceremonies and legacy tenants AFL & Cricket and that’s it ... everythng else pretty much unchanged including Brisbane Arena staying in Roma Street Parklands. A Maroochydore rail line likely a bridge too far. But that’s only my guess. Perhaps now’s a good time to begin lowering our expectations of what is coming. Yes, …. and hoping too for some leaks from 8 March onwards.   Here’s more from the Courier Mail report:   Queensland Premier David Crisafulli will unveil his 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games venues and infrastructure plan at The Courier-Mail’s Future Brisbane Special Event on 25 March, which has already been sold out.   It will be the most significant announcement for Brisbane since winning the bid to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games.   More than 300 people, including leaders of government, industry and Brisbane 2032 decision makers will be at Howard Smith Wharves for the announcement. As revealed last week, the Queensland Government will release the 100-day infrastructure review report, and its response, on Tuesday, March 25.   The government will receive the report on March 8 and then use the subsequent 16 days to consult other levels of government, the International Olympic Committee and 2032 organising committee President Andrew Liveris. Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner, Federal Sport Minister Anika Wells and Queensland Premier David Crisafulli at The Courier-Mail’s Future Brisbane event in November, 2024.   The Premier will announce the venues plan in conversation with The Courier-Mail Editor Chris Jones at the Future Brisbane Special Event lunch Sunday Mail Editor Melanie Pilling will then host an expert panel with industry reaction to the Games venues plan. Since 2017, The Courier-Mail’s Future Brisbane series has played a leading role in advocating for our city and ensuring the 2032 Games deliver long-term legacy benefits.

    • Not sure if this is the right thread but there is no 2025 boxing discussion thread so .   Anyway the Standja tournament starts tomorrow. Its not a great field for ye know various reasons (womens world champs in a couple of weeks/  IBA run tournament). It's mostly just the Uzbek and Kazakh A and B men's teams and not a whole lot else but the draw has thrown up a potentially reallly good fight in the opening round where Olympic champion Asadkhuja Muydinkhujaev  meets the boxer of the tournament from the youth world championships last year Torekhan Sabyrkhan  who comes with a ludicrous amount of hype. Muydinkhujaev might just win easily but it could be a great fight. 14:00/ 14;15 ish GMT tomorrow on bulgarian boxing youtube channel.   (On an unrelated note I wrote quite a long and likely misguided early projection of a potential Irish Olympic squad for LA on the Irish club's thread if anyone is interested.)
