OMG, can't believe there's a North American team whose name doesn't consist of a toponymy and a random plural noun

It's only temporary as the hockey season starts soon and there was not enough time apparently to rebrand.

Sport teams are like companies in North America. Here they moved their headquarters and are in the middle of rebranding.

Yep, that I was aware of, but to the non-American it always feels so odd when suddenly a whole team is just picked up and moved to a different place and kind of seen as a continuation of the same team, despite being something entirely different :p

You get weird situations where the current Winnipeg Jets use to be from Atlanta and the team in Utah was originally the Winnipeg Jets before they moved to Arizona.

So if you were a Winnipeg Jets fan in the 90's, you became an Arizona Coyotes fan despite it being far away and having nothing to do with Winnipeg anymore, and now that transferred to being a fan of a random other team that happens to be HC Utah, the continuation of the original Jets? Or if you were a Jets fan in the 90's you simply stopped being a fan of anything, until the current Jets came around and one became a fan of that? :p

Well we got the first tuneup  game today.  Slovenia vs Austria. Slovenia scores 16 minutes into 2nd period to take a 1-0 lead. With 53 seconds left in the game Marco Kaspar of Detroit Red Wings assisted by David Reinbacher of Montreal Canadians ties the game. Then 3 minutes into overtime Marco Kaspar scores again to give Austria a 2-1 win.

Tomorrow two more tuneups. Norway vs France & Cardiff vs Great Britain,

Another tuneup game Norway vs France. Almost just like yesterdays game.  France lead 2-1 after two periods. With 2.41 left in the game Tampa Bay Lighting player Emil Lilleberg tied the score. Then 4 minutes into OT Emil Lilleberg scored to win the game for Norway 3-2 . Also a assist for Mats Zuccarello with the Minnesota Wild

No result on the Great Britain vs Cardiff game

GREAT news! :yes

All of the matches for the Olympic Qualifier will be live-streamed on IIHF YouTube, free of charge!

https://youtube.com/@iihf?si=8z-RCFsnSOCqWmQy

For all non-competing countries at least, pretty sure it won’t be streamed for all, some probably have rights to their matches or the whole event through various broadcasters and streaming services.

Iesim Latvija !! :LAT (Šilovs & Bługers in particular) :cheer:

Not a good sign for Great Britain in the 2nd tuneup of the day.

Four final tuneups tomorrow for these 6 national teams

    • Today maybe there was poor wax servic, but Auchentaller loses in every race at the end, when younger competitors: Grotian, Richard, etc. are already running much faster. Vittozzi is 29 years old but unfortunately she got injured in November - if she recovers, she will still have a big chance for medals. Unfortunately, Wierer can only be a complement to relay teams.
    • Could be the waxing on the last lap fresh snow. Auchentaller, Wierer & Trabucci all fell off on the last lap and basically had the slowest skiing time there? Overall though you have a problem, days of prime Wierer & Vittozzi won't be repeated soon but then I hear the same issues in alpine skiing where there is a huge gap behind Brignone & Bassino (the latter being 28 years old already). And someone claimed Colturi would have plateau'd if she stayed with the Italian federation as well.
    • Could not watch it, despite that I'm definitely not upset :)
    • I am rooting for Team Canada in Ice hockey and Team Austria in Ski jumping
    • Finally at least one condition suitable for the dog shit we wax
    • Slovakia returns to the podium for the first time since Oslo in March 2022. To find a podium in the mass start we even have to go back to Rupholding 2019, before the covid era
    • The truth is that the entire Italian biathlon depends on one Vittozzi, who is not sure if she will return this season and her form is also questionable, because the rest of the Italian team is running poorly. Wierer is old and will never win again - she is running weaker and weaker and what is worse: she is shooting poorly. The rest of our team is running too weakly to count on any successes in the future. I don`t believe that Auchentaller or Comola will suddenly make a big progress in the run track, e.g. to the top 10, since the young French women are already much faster than them.
    • Auchentaller runs poorly, and her last rounds are awful - generally all Italian women have a problem with fitness and this is probably the problem of poor preparation before the season. If you don't run in the top 10, you can forget about successes apart from one individual race. Wierer and Vittozzi always ran in the top 10 during their prime. I don't see such potential in Auchentaller. Generally, both in biathlon and cross-country skiing Italian teams aren`t able to train a few good runners for many years and this is probably a systemic problem - look at France, for example: how many good runners have they been able to train in biathlon in recent years...
    • First winter podium for Slovakia! Amazing. Nice to see us finally on the podium this winter. Feels like a good step forward for biathlon here, hopefully, a sign of better things to come. Solid result, let’s hope for more like this.
