Tokyo 2020 Day after Day as it could have happened

Recommended Posts

I personally think: I would love to see Tokyo 2021 happen.

But if Tokyo 2021 cannot happen it should be moved to 2032 without farther biding, if only JPN would be interested, and I am not sure they would.

So if there is Tokyo 2021 happening

or if Tokyo 2021 is cancelled, but JPN doesn;t want to have Tokyo 2032, or IOC (which is very likely) and NBC (which is not that likely) doesn;t share my opinion on Tokyo 2032 without bid,

who should get 2032 - I wonder what you think on that matter.

According to EN wikipedia, parties interested in hosting 2032 are:

Mumbai IND

Jakarta INA

Doha QAT

Rhine-Ruhr GER

Madrid ESP

Southeast Queensland AUS

And according to EN wikipedia, other potential bids are:

Seoul-Pyongyang KOR/PRK

Istanbul TUR

Chengdu-Chongqing or Shanghai CHN

Tokyo JPN

North-Central Italy ITA

Rotterdam-Amsterdam NED

London GBR

Budapest HUN

My early thoughts:

If i could choose among interested parties only:

(euro-vision style points haha):

1. Southeast Queensland AUS 6pts

2. Rhine-Ruhr GER 5pts

3. Madrid ESP 4pts

4. Doha QAT 3 pts

5. Mumbai IND 2 pts

6. Jakarta INA 1 pt

If I could choose among interested parties and potential bids combined: (tokyo 2032 excluded from the list due to what I wrote earlier):

1. Southeast Queensland AUS 13 pts

2. Rotterdam-Amsterdam NED 12 pts

3. Rhine-Ruhr GER 11 pts

4. Budapest HUN 10 pts

5. North-Central Italy ITA 9 pts

6. Madrid ESP 8pts

7. Shanghai CHN 7 pts

8. London GBR 6 pts

9. Doha QAT 5 pts

10. Mumbai IND 4 pts

11. Istanbul TUR 3 pts

12. Jakarta INA 2 pts

13. Seoul-Pyongyang KOR 1 pt

I know it is not how euro-vision points system work, but that is not important, the order is important, and the difference between the points, (if I can chooose among interested parties and potential bids combined - I want NED to host the 32 olympics twice as much as I want GBR to host it)

what are your thoughts on that, ladies and gents?

With all the money spent (15 billions so far, if my memory is good) I don't see the official from Tokyo cancelling the games.

A new postponment is not realistic as the cost of the games will climb up more and more and the situation will not be sustainable for japanese organisation and government.

Dreaming of 2032 for Tokyo is not an option too because effort made to delay the game for one year won't be made to set up the game in 10 years, and I assume japanese people will not be interested by the olympic games for a long time.

If the sanitary situation let the games happen they will happen this summer. From what we know last year the situation was under control during mid-spring to mid-autumn so Tokyo Games might take place this summer, I hope so.

My ranking would be:

1) Amsterdam

Don‘t like any of the other options for different reasons. Not sure how serious Amsterdam is.

1) I don’t want them to waste taxpayer money.

2) Looking at recent big projects in Germany I wouldn’t bet anything on all the facilities being ready in time.

3) I want to have Olympic Games in big iconic cities.

4) The region is very ugly. I don’t think it would be a nice place to welcome people from all over the world.

Amsterdam is never gonna happen, unfortunately. The residents are very much against it, except for me.

Sydney 2000 was by far the best Olympics in my lifetime - and I think the IOC heavies share that view

I'd say SE Qld  must be a strong favourite but the IOC , while not as bad as FIFA , can easily be bought so Qatar wouldn't be too much of a surprise

Australia is very good at these things -the Australian Open is the most popular major with the players for instance

Well, happy reading then :d I have both books, the part with the Hochschorners is the funniest, with their quote, there five rings at the Olympics, so we want five golds, one for each ring...it did not last too long, however :p

    • Weightlifting formula is more or less similar to 2020 which was considered terrible by everybody!    this is a tough sport, you can't be in your best shape for too many events. there will be risks of serious injuries this way. with these rules you need 5 good results to qualify. if you bomb out in an event to score a zero you are out of the Olympics unless you replace it with another event. which means most of these poor guys have to participate in 7-8 events (and not just 5) to make up for possible bomb outs.    most importantly if you get injured anytime during this period (almost 2 years) you are out of the Olympics! that's how Sohrab Moradi missed the Tokyo Olympics despite breaking the WR during the qualification period. you can miss the Olympics in 2028 if you get injured late 2026 !  Karlos Nasar couldn't win the Olympic title if we had these rules in 2024   I understand 2024 qualification formula wasn't great either, it had its own flaws but this one is much worse for threatening athletes' health.

    • Weightlifting We now have six events per gender with a total of 10 athletes per event.   The Olympic Qualification Rankings will be based on the sum of the total results of five events (three from period 1 and two from period 2). The top 8 will qualify.   The 9th spot will also be based on the OQR, but it will go to the highest ranked athlete from an unrepresented continent.   The 10th spot will be split between the host and universality (3 each per gender). Should the United States qualify normally then their host quota will be reduced, first going to an athlete from an unrepresented continent then to the overall highest ranked athlete.   Additionally, a "Best Lifter" will be awarded which would give the nation the chance to qualify 4 athletes rather than the max of 3.
