JoshMartini007 2,304 Posted March 5, 2020 #2 Share Posted March 5, 2020 Canada will be having its selection trials today and tomorrow ahead of the Olympic qualifier to be held over the weekend. Two athletes from the singles events while one team in the mixed doubles will be selected to compete at the Olympic qualifier. This is important as it will narrow down who will take the Olympic singles quota (though I heard Bermuda might make an appearance) Draw list

dcro 10,192 Posted March 7, 2020 #4 Share Posted March 7, 2020 Quote Congratulations to our 4 athletes representing Team Canada / Équipe Canada at the ITTF North American Olympic Games qualifier. The event will be hosted tomorrow at 2pm: Jeremy Hazin vs. Eugene WangHui Huang vs. Mo Zhang The winner of each match will be directly qualified to represent Canada at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. #banbestmen
JoshMartini007 2,304 Posted March 7, 2020 #5 Share Posted March 7, 2020 Yeah it's only a matter of time before North and Latin America are merged. They are already hosting a Pan American Championship. I don't feel too bad as more often than not Canada is good enough to qualify one athlete in a hypothetical combined tournament, potentially two on good years. The issue is that both sides don't want to have a singe spot for the team and mixed doubles event
NearPup 2,334 Posted March 7, 2020 #6 Share Posted March 7, 2020 I kind of hope Hazin and Huang win their singles matches, since that way Canada could send four players to Tokyo assuming Wang and Zhang win their mixed doubles match tomorrow. thiago_simoes 1,359 Posted March 7, 2020 #8 Share Posted March 7, 2020 How the hell is a continental federation with four member nations allowed to even host its own Olympic qualifier?

It's an historic relic when traveling was expensive that's only kept because no one (Brazil/Canada/United States) wants more competition for the team quotas. thiago_simoes

It’s what happens when people forget that Central America and the Caribbeans are part of North America. ATHENS 1896 and thiago_simoes
