Which Sports Events are you Currently Watching?

Recommended Posts

Comparatively less cluttered week

3×3 Asia Cup is the one and only event to watch. It's been really fun watching some exciting buzzer beaters and OT matches. Sri Lankan men were fantastic with their upset over :KOR. Also :NMI:INA men's match, :MDV:PYF :CHN:TPEwomen's match, :KGZ:PYF , :MGL:SRI , :INA:KOR , :NZL:MAS men's matches were some of the matches I enjoyed the most.

Hoping for Indian women to claim an upset win and reach QF tomorrow. This being the only event should be able to watch most of the matches.

On Sunday though for a short time would watch Dika Toua the first female weightlifter at Olympics to have lifted weight secure ticket to her 6th Olympic games.

Monday onwards it's the IWF WC where I'd try to watch A groups of Olympic Medal Classes.

On Saturday it's the Oceania Taekwondo Qualifier which is set for record participation from athletes and nations in the continent. 45 have registered as per the WT page including coaches and support staff. But usually 70% of the registered in event are players so at least hoping 30+ will be in action. That should be a cracker.

It is the day of days, Tour of Flanders :woohoo:

Although in Belgium it's the end of a week of national mourning, it has had a general vibe - and I swear I am not exaggerating - as if Van Aert died last Wednesday (he got injured and broke a few things but he most certainly is still alive). Flanders is....weird :p

All week long, all the cycling talk shows have been about it, there were live blogs about his wife and kids arriving in the hospital and so on.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hockey (Canucks in the NHL, and Women’s World Championships), Swimming (Canadian Open/TYR Pro Swim Series Westmont), Curling (Grand Slam of Curling Players Championship), Tennis (Monte Carlo Masters), Wheelchair Basketball (Final Paralympic World Qualifier), 3x3 Basketball (Universality Olympic Qualifying Tournament 1), Sitting Volleyball (probably the men’s/women’s finals at the Final Paralympic World Qualifier), Track Cycling (UCI Nations Cup Milton), Athletics (basically whichever meets I can find that seem interesting), Football (Women’s Euros Qualification), Taekwondo (Pan American Olympic Qualifier)

Unfortunately, no Mixed Doubles Curling Worlds or the Pan American Archery Olympic Qualifier as both are PPV :(

I’m also going to be following along (this is just for me) with the results of the first Rowing World Cup of the season in Varese, FIVB Guadalajara Challenge in Mexico (maybe I’ll watch, we’ll see…), European Wrestling Olympic Qualifier, Stockholm Open/South Africa Olympic Trials/Australian Championships/New Zealand Olympic Trials in swimming, and Weightlifting World Cup Phuket.

Time for my weekly schedule, no room for track cycling, badminton, beach volleyball, sport climbing, or the TYR Pro Swim Series San Antonio. Probably no athletics either.

FYI this isn’t finalized, there’s also Monte Carlo ATP tennis that I’ll watch depending on the results, GSOC Champions Cup that I’ll watch depending on which sheet is being streamed (and TSN only starts streaming it on Thursday despite it starting today), and the South Africa Swim Trials depending on if I’m awake. But with my rigorous schedule I’m not too sure about that, and even if I do have time I want to be doing other things too.

April 10

2:00 AM- 3:30 AM: Tennis - ATP Monte Carlo Masters - FAA v. Sonego in the R32

6:00 AM- 9:00 AM: Canadian Swimming Championships Day 1 Prelims

3:00- 5:30 PM: Swimming - Canadian Open Day 1 Finals

7:30 PM- 10:30 PM: Hockey - NHL - Canucks v. Coyotes

April 11

2:00 PM- 5:00 PM: Hockey - Women’s World Championships Quarterfinals Canada v. Sweden

3:00- 5:30 PM: Swimming - Canadian Open Day 2 Finals

April 12

6:30 AM- 8:30 AM: Men’s Wheelchair Basketball Final Paralympic Qualifier - Canada v. Netherlands

3:00- 5:30 PM: Swimming - Canadian Open Day 3 Finals

April 13

8:00 AM - 11:00 AM: Men’s Wheelchair Basketball Final Paralympic Qualifier - Canada v. France

12:00 PM- 3:00 PM: Hockey - Women’s World Championships Semifinals TBD v. TBD (if Canada wins it’s likely to be the time frame)

3:00- 5:30 PM: Swimming - Canadian Open Day 4 Finals

Time for my unrealistic weekly rundown of events I’ll be watching, and others that I’ll be following. Might have got some times/time durations wrong, but my schedule is extremely flexible this week.

Olympic Flame Lighting Ceremony (tomorrow 1:30AM- 3:00AM PST), Beach Volleyball (Elite 16 Tepic, April 17-21), Athletics (Diamond League Xiamen, April 20 from 4:00-7:00 AM, World Athletics Race Walking Team Championships April 21 from 2:55 AM-5:00 AM PST), NHL Hockey (April 16, Canucks v. Flames at 7:00PM PST- 9:45PM PST, April 18, Canucks v. Jets at 5:00PM PST- 7:45 PM PST, and the playoffs starting April 20), Wheelchair Basketball (Gonna decide which Paralympic quota matches on April 20 to watch after the brackets are sorted out. Of course Canada’s match will for sure be one of them), 3x3 Basketball (Women’s Series in Springfield from April 23-24), and pretty much any other athletics meets/club volleyball matches/swimming events that I can find a streaming link for.

Whos idea was it to put the Nairobi Continental Tour Gold event and the Xiamen Diamond League one hour apart? Ridiculous scheduling for the two top athletics meets of this week (maybe Mt. Sac Relays has it beat)

No Mixed Doubles Curling World Championships (entire event isn’t  streaming in Canada and I’m not paying World Curling TV to watch)

    • It's all hogwash especially in the short attention span generation. Like nobody cares about Free Tibet anymore either. Free Palestine will last a lot longer due to Saudi Arabia becoming a sponsorship force in sports.   Israel is too weak in soccer to qualify from UEFA zone. The only time they qualified was from the Asian zone and they only beat Australia & New Zealand who were complete nobodies in the 1960s. No such luck in the 60 years since.
    • Oh I assure you FIFA dodger a bullet with Israel not qualifying…   But ya that’s kind of the thing, shut up and dribble is a mantra anti LGBT people have used often. I don’t think it’s hypocritical to remind them of their position
    • Ah, yes but that's not how pro athletes are taught in North America these days? Shut up & dribble is xenophobic, racist or whatever? The hypocrisy of some of these policies were exposed during 2022 World Cup already where the Saudis played it smart and waved their own "Free Palestine' slogans. Forget LGBT rights for a moment, how many 'Free Palestine' flags will be waved in 2026? Or will those be confiscated by default?
