Yaaaaay, Hodgson resigns. There's always a new tomorrow and hope.

And why am I the only one even commenting here? Where are the other Brits/English users?

don´t worry buddy, thats only sport, next time you´ll do better. :yes and who will remember the football flop when you´ll dominate the upcomming olympics european medal tally ? :d

I also supported England tonight, but we must admit that they played awful match, and Iceland frankly deserved this win tonight.

now we will meet again btw in the WCH qualifiers, let see who will want go to Russia more :d and maybe this time you will score against us :p:yes

It doesn't stop at the Olympics. Out of all the top teams, GB is the only one not to have anybody qualified in a sport that offers 18 sets of medals (wrestling).

There are too many embarrassing things to be spotted. I also don't expect a good performance in Rio. It may be emotionally driven but this is 2016 for me, a year in which everything goes wrong in personal life and sport has not been a good alternative this year. Well, except my own competitions that is. I could make them public here but then I will be known as the nerd here. :d

No doubts about that, Iceland were much better. England without any spirit and the goalkeeper issue since centuries is simply ridiculous. LDOG said he won't follow his team anymore so I will do the same until something changes. There are many other teams to support anyway. :yes

nah Russia has 18 wrestling medal chances, but has nothing qualified in athletics for example,:d so who know, we´ll see, personally I expect a very succesfull British campaign in Rio :yes

yeah thats really sad, hope everything will end in better way for you.

haha, no it´s very interesting, personally I like your "project" especially SVK is doing very well, instead of the real life

yep I perfectly understand your feelings and argentinians too ofc..but once again it´s just football, once you are up and once down, next time will be better. just need to learn from the flops and restart to work again :yes maybe without Hart for example :d

i said that, i dont see LDOG saying that......but i really undertand him if he said :)

in other hand: you are probably more frustrated than us......you never see England winning nothing.

some similitude of the quarter finalists:

Poland - Portugal   the first letters "PO"

Wales - Belgium   the third letter "L"

Germany - Italy   the last letter "Y"

France - Iceland  again "an"

it gives  Polyan

what that means , is it the sign ?:mumble:

Everybody has "son" at their names, even England coach, HodgSON:lol:

I'm not an expert in the topic, but I think it's because that's how family names are constructed there (patronymic). Men names end with -sson, meaning "son of x", women names end with -dottir, meaning "daughter of x".

Some things never change.  England will always choke.  Argentina will always choke.  And after 4 big years Spain is back being underwhelming big tournament team

    • Of the top teams the world with traditions, only Portugal didn`t play in 3 World Cups in a row: 1986-2002 (1990, 1994 and 1998), but then fewer teams played in the World Cup than now. I don't really remember what caused the crisis in Portuguese football in the 1990s or how it was done with this later? Perhaps we should follow their example?
    • Well... If not qualifying for the World Cup for the third consecutive time isn't enough to bring about change in Italy, I can't imagine what will be.
    • Gravina is simply stupid and probably has some kind of hold over other important key figures in Italian football, since he was elected in 2024 with a majority of over 90% of the votes... I have a hard time imagining it any other way. Compared to him, even Carraro, Berlusconi and Moggi seem like nice and kind gentlemens   Some people believe that Calciopoli in 2006 began the decline of Italian football and that may be true. It only got worse from there, not counting a single accidental Euro 2021 win- something similar to Greece in 2004. In 2009 Roberto Baggio prepared a 900-page report on necessary reforms in Italian football, but the then-FIGC board tossed it into the trash bin. Now we see the consequences...
    • I thought our former football President was greedy, selfish, power hungry and delusional, but apparently he has an equal counterpart in Gravina. Some people just lack common decency.
    • Well, it's possible that Italians may be more bitter towards short track officials after the robbery they perpetrated against Sighel at the Olympics and therefore more willing to comment and criticize them, but it doesn't make the decision any less ridiculous.   Also, the fact we are Italians, and therefore used to the low standards of football refereeing, makes us especially qualified and trained to identify biased/crooked/incompetent judging
    • I think it was never in the history of our sport has there been anyone as brazen and stupid as Gravina. Before presidents would resign, or at least hide for a while, rather than go into a full-blow scandalous attitude with full larrogance and pride. I hope this idiot gets fired anyway, even if he doesn't resign.

    • Joking aside, apparently discussions are ongoing with ECB and CI for some kind of euro 6 Nations in T20 cricket - apparently the idea at this point is automatic qualification for England, Ireland, Scotland and the Netherlands, while the final two places will be decided at a Tri-series in which Italy will be the only automatic entry, more or less guarnteeing Italy entry - from there, its two parallel Tri series with a finals day. Apparently inspired by the rise of Nepal and the Asia Cup, English cricket think they can make a short sharp tournament of this sort financially viable, as it would involve only three T20 games over 5 days in the early season, and they could rest the biggest players while getting some goodwill from ICC - previously they had not shown interest in a comp the Scots and Dutch have always wanted.
