Belgrade wasnt that far from getting the Games in 1992, so i dont think that idea of having Bratislava as hosts is impossible. Probably as co-hosts though.

I do believe that IOC will consider abandoning sole host idea in the nearest future.

If there a chance of Slovakia ever hosting/co-hosting Olympics it would be definitely the Winter Games with Poland or so... For summer it is just impossible and hopefully not even envisageable for the future, Such waste of money would be the last nail in the coffin of this Republic

As a Mediterranean, it makes me very strange that Prague is not included in the project. Usually the Czech Republic is one of the pivots of Visegrad/Mitteleuropa. Am I missing something or some political controversy between the IOC and the Czech NOC?

Yeah, Prague is definitely one city I can personally imagine hosting a great olympics. Definitely more suitable than the black hole we use as capital lately

In your opinion did Sarajevo 1984 make sense? Are there any sports facilities there, or did the war destroy everything?

Winter Games are safer pick but who knows... In retrospective, Belgrade was weaker choice then than Bratislava now.

I think that BDP was higher in Czechoslovakia in 1985 than in SFRY.

Time is different but future could surprise us in a shocking manner.

I guess not. It was a political thing. SFRY benefited a lot from being non aligned.

Quality of life was artificially high  because we were receiving many loans from USA, IMF, Soviet Union. Having a game organised in some NA country was a IOC compromise between two superpowers and that wouldnt be possible without high loanes.

Strictly ecconomically, it was a disaster because our country struggled financially since 1975, and situation in 1983 was dramatically bad.

If SFRY had any benefit from Games, it was only about few athletes that became heroes. We didnt earmed a dime.

Of course, i can say this based on some books and papers, as i wasnt borned back then.

I think that majority of venues were damaged or destroyed. Situation has improved but luge/skeleton/bob track is still unusable, same goes for ski jumping.

basically, no more men and women's Shooting in LA, but just "open" competitions (like in Equestrian Sports) and no more Shooting Sports in Brisbane, replaced by no less than Darts!

I feel like not having the shooting events separated by gender is actually pretty reasonable? In Paris the gold medalist of the women’s event had a higher final score than the gold medalist in the men’s event in the 50m rifle and the 10m pistol (and multiple women had high enough scores to make the men’s final).

Olympic shootgun shooting used to be open and it was fine.

Also think of the bright side: no more mixed team events in shooting!

While I agree the difference between sex in shooting is minimal any move to create an open event would kill the sport for women. Unlike in equestrian where a significant amount of women compete, shooting will likely return to a very male dominant sport.
