My question - what is the condition to qualify an athlete via one apparatus? I am trying to count such situation for :CZE gymnasts.

For example. There might be 2 Czechs, both eligible for All-Around Quota. But one of them finished, let' say, 13th in Vault. But he is first of non-team qualifiers. So Czechs might drop off the Quota for the other one in all-around and qualify the first one via apparatus? Or is there that condition that if you wanna qualify via apparatus, you must be in the final?

Also asking because I noticed in women's competition there is only one gymnast qualified via apparatus. Thanks a lot.

You cannot qualify via apparatus if you are not in the final. Direct consequence is that a NOC cannot qualify more than one athlete unless they are pure specialist, because through all-around NOCs can qualify only one athlete.

EDIT: all-around has higher priority, so if two athletes from the same nation can qualify through all-around, only the best ranked does. The other one can qualify via apparatus if a finalist, otherwise quota is reallocated to all-arounders

This is the condition. If a gymnast doesn't make the final, no chance to qualify in this apparatus.

If gymnasts from more than 3 nations that did not qualify a team manage to reach the final in a single apparatus, we will have to wait until event finals to see who will finish in the top 3 (among nations without a qualified team). This is very unlikely to happen, but there's a slight possibility in men's vault.

If a nation fails to qualify a team, but is able to qualify one gymnast for the Olympics through the all-around ranking and more than 2 other gymnasts for the event finals, there is a specific rule stating that only three will be able to qualify. Once again, extremely unlikely to happen, and I only see a very small possibility of this happening with Turkey.

Floor is where I suspected Turkey was going to lose it, but they managed to score over 40. Their insane parallel bars rotation (43.2) provides a very comfortable cushion for them even if they don't do very well on pommels. Either way, they are on the track to qualify a full team for the first time ever (and maybe even make it to the event finals).

Meltdown for Onder on pommel horse. Turkey is done.

Yes. Not even huge scores on pommel could save them now. They need 43.802 to outscore Italy, and this means 14.600 per routine. Impossible.

But this opens up a very interesting scenario: if Onder finishes ahead of Arican in the all-around and Çolak qualifies for the event final on rings, three Turkish could qualify for the Olympics (Onder in the all-around, Arican in parallel bars and Çolak in rings).

Would that mean Turkey can enter the team event (I assume, only 3 of 4 squares will count) ?

BTW do you think Canada can make it to the top 12? 246 is what they scored at Pan Ams, but have a slightly different team here.

I don’t know very much about gymnastics and I can only see live scoring, but from what I can understand I am start thinking that Italy made a good qualification and some quite good individual exercises, although apart from Lodadio it is going to be hard to see any other individual finalist

    • Unfortunate, but it doesn't change the fact that I'm looking forward to Thursday evening, when the team captain's meeting is over and we have our very first World Cup start list of the season. Always a cool moment to see who's there and everything
    • Today I unpacked some of the boxes in which we have put my way too many books to move to our house, and I came across these beauty's I hadn't seen for a while     Absolutely recommended, tough to get for a decent price, but they are such an interesting read with lots of very interesting little stories! Still looking for at least 1900, 1904 and 1906, but not really in the right moment to spend money on that now, so the wait goes on
    • Which I guess is part of why unfortunately 'our' first wild card attempt of the season was rejected last week
