Finally caught up with the gold medal match in beach handball. Qatari player throwing a hissy fit about not touching the cord, even though the instant replay showed that he definitely did touch it, was just hilarious. :tantrum: Very deserved red card was awarded. Good riddance.

We finish with seven medals (2 golds + 5 silvers) in beach handball, boules, kickboxing, karate and finnswimming.

Really an exceptional performance all-around. It all started with those hugely surprising finnswimming medals, and it just kept going. :)

Closing ceremony was much better than the opening ceremony. Transitions were still rough, but artist segments utilized the space better and we’re just more enthralling. Chengdu 2025 segment was gorgeous in person.

Gold Medal Match

:SVK Monika Chochlíková  30 - 27  Meriem El-Moubarik :MAR

GOLD MEDAL

Slovakia will return from Alabama witha Gold Medal. The medal finally came in the last possible discipline with Slovak participation on the final competitive day of the Games.

Monika dominated her Under 51Kg class category and earned the Muay Thai Flyweight gold, as she mentioned to the media right after her triumph, the gold was a great satisfaction for her for the unlucky and botched kickboxing from earlier this week.

good, but not exceptional final result for Italy...

we failed to reach the 50 medal target (by just 1, but still) and we're down from 16 to 13 gold medals from the past Games in  Wroclaw...

very good outcome in Speedskating and Archery, below expectations Finswimming and, above all, Roller Skating (it was an Italian clean sweep 4 years ago)...

expecting more also from Karate, Rhythmic Gymnastics and Canoe Polo...

I don't know why we didn't even participate in Sport Climbing...

unfortunately, no really surprising gold came to help the cause...

more in general, awful TV/streaming coverage...surely, the worst aspect of these Games...

My sole conclusion of the 2022 world games : these athletes deserve better

In which sense exactly? Better coverage?

That would have been fairly unrealistic. Quality of sports coverage has really gone downhill since the pandemic started. Remember all those lovely shooting finals in Tokyo where the audience was left literally clueless since there was no graphics? Yeah, for me this was above average, for what it's worth.

Isn't shooting always impossible to follow at the Olympics? Although this time was the worst of all, sure.

    • Alpine skiing also we have a lot of problems: the men's team is very weak and has been winning a few podiums a season for several years and the our best skier- Dominik Paris is 35. We still have a strong women's team but 3 of the 4 leaders are over 30 (Goggia, Brignone, Curtoni) and Bassino is 28. Another 2 years and we will have the same problem as the men's. There is basically no cross-country skiing without Pellegrino for many years, biathlon is based on 2 individuals with one of them has a 35 years. Vittozzi's injury was enough and we haven`t a single podium this season after 3 stages of the World Cup. As for 1 year to the home games the situation isn`t optimistic.
    • Hail to the Reds... Commanders. First time since 1991 Washington QB has thrown 5 TD passes in a game (which isn't all that improbable in the modern game alas Dan Snyder...)
    • Italy is much better in alpine skiing, in The end all Nations have a Limited Talent Pool. Norway is far better than Sweden/Finland in Cross-Country skiing, alpine skiing and Biathlon, but Sweden/Finland are far better in ice Hockey.  Great Britain wins far more medals than Germany At Summer olympics, but GB is also inexistant in Winter Sports and Most popular Team Sports (Volleyball, Handball, Basketball, Ich Hockey).
    • Thanks, great stat! Tannheimer wont turn 20 until August 2025, so she has The whole Season To Join Kristiansen and Neuner. Too Bad that she was ill this week. I think Galmace Paulin and Tänglander could also do it. I think Grotian (born 2004) is The First female Biathlete born after 1999 To make a World Cup Podium. On The Mens side multiple Athletes (Perrot, Giacomel, Uldal) have already done it.   E. Öberg was 22 and a half when she First won.  Dahlmeier was 21 and a half.   Edit: Grotian only narrowly missed The Podium in The Individual at The 2024 World Championships when she was still  19 year old.
