Diving at the Aquatics WA World Championships 2023

Recommended Posts

Wow judges really wanted the French pair to move into the final in women’s 3m synchro.

Their third dive saw one of them forming a perfect L-shape into the pool, still received a 6.0 note:”; not to mention that same round China was given 8.0 notes with an awful performance with no synchro at all and one of the divers overrotating.

No. On the women's side they weren't a big factor at the last olympics, but on the men's side they definitely were. They won bronze in men's 10 m synchronized. In men's 10 m they finished 4th and 5th (behind Daley who has since retired) and in men's 3 m they finished 5th (behind Laugher who won't compete here). I think their athletes would have been clear medal contenders in at least 3 events. Also at the world championships before that they won 2 medals and finished 5th in men's 3 m synchronized, 5th in women's 10 m synchronized and 4th in women's 3 m sychronized. So overall they finished top 5 in 5 of the 8 events at the last world championships they were allowed to compete.

Not a compelling argument. Looking at the three athletes you refer to from the previous Games it is open to question how many of them are still competing.

The 3m springboard diver will be 34 by the time Paris comes around which is elderly for a diver and he's unlikely to be improving while others will be. The two 10m platform divers you refer to will be 33 and 31 respectively. The latter is also Ukrainian born and it must be open to question whether he will wish to compete for Russia in light of current circumstances.

You're largely pinning your argument on a group of aging divers whose future is questionable.

P.S . Daley hasn't officially retired

Really solid performance by the :GBR pairing in the women's 3m synchro event to qualify for final in 3rd place in what is arguably our weakest synchro event. By coincidence, we also qualified in 3rd for men's 3m and women's 10m and went on to win silver in both - here's hoping we can make it 3 from 3 later today :d

You must be concerned by their performance in the men's 10m platform synchro then given that they qualfied second.

So, didn't realize that Gary Hunt, one of the great cliff diver of all times and a former :GBR competitor, was now competing for :FRA and attempting to go to the Olympics in the men's 10m synchro, hoping to make his Olympic debut at 40.

:CHN qualifies for the Olympics in women's 3m synchro springboard, along with :GBR and :ITA

Another chance at a Canadian quota gone...

3 from 3 for :GBR

All the more impressive that GB hadn't won a women's diving medal before yesterday and now we have 2 in 2 days.

Just hoping that the platform guys don't screw it up by failing to medal now.

Considering that this is a new partnership, 5th is still a good result. An olympic quota here would've been a bonus

    • Personally, I'm really looking forward to Japan's performance in the World Cup. From the current situation, Japan has a very distinctive playing style. They have strong tactical ideas whether facing European teams or South American teams. However, Japan has never won a knockout match in the World Cup. As someone who has been following Asian football for a long time, I really admire Japanese football.
    • Italy didn't qualify again.    Well, now all that's left is for Germany to be eliminated again in the group stage and we'll guarantee another 4 years of "Brazil, the only five-time champion in history, nobody is bigger than Brazil, respect our history and blah blah" that we use on the internet.
    • Failing to qualify for the World Cup once can be put down to bad luck or other reasons, but missing out three times in a row must be due to an all-round gap. I feel sorry for Italy.
    • Italians can only blame themselves. Serie A has been run by foreigners more than any other Top 5 domestic league. There are zero global stars not named Donnarumma. This is the weakest Italian crop of players I can remember and it's not even close.   As for Poland, our defense did a terrible job. Unlike the much-maligned Michniewicz & Probierz who often parked the bus, Urban completely run out of BS luck since errors proved too numerous & too costly.
    • Okay, but defeats to Macedonia and Bosnia are unacceptable. Above all, let Italians start playing in Italian clubs... Look at Milan or Como...  Another think is the old and ugly stadiums - Türkiye or Poland currently have much better infrastructure than we do.
    • Problem is, that the current funding system of Italian sports - since 2018- relies on football paying the lion's share through taxes (around 70% of the sum that is redistributed). So the rest is strong until it can draw money from football, which in turn makes football weaker and less able to generate money and then who knows.
    • I prefer our current strong sport at all and weak football than a lucky promotion and defeat at the World Cup, as in 2010 or 2014. Sinner, Brignone, or Antonelli are worth 100 times more than losers like Bastoni.
    • if tonight's humiliation means 20+ gold and 50+ total medals in 2 years time in LA, I'll take it 1 billion times    and I'd never change the emotions of the 2 Olympic weeks in Milan (and the other sites) with just another average soccer world cup
    • Strong teams advance from the groups, especially since there are now 48 teams playing at the World Cup, not 32. It's Italy's fault that they lost 0-3 and 1-4 to Norway.
    • What's more, the match was started brilliantly today. Bastoni was a complete disaster. What's more, Bosnia must have had 30 shots on goal. They're simply the worst Italy team ever – worse than Norway, Turkey, or Bosnia.
