Maybe GB in m synchro 10m, but unlikely. They'll need a China mistake to have a chance.

They rarely if ever achieve a clean sweep so the chances are that other countries will win 1-2 events.

GB's best bet would be a fit Laugher and Harding, but both are walking wounded at the minute, to the point Jack, who is basically the only realistic competition to Chinese in the 3m individual isn't even diving in that. Frankly their silver was miracle in such circumstances, and they'l feel pretty good about it. At the moment the world order, minus the Russians, seems to be China - huge gap - Great Britain - smaller but still notable gap - the rest of the major nations (CAN, USA, MEX, UKR, GER, ITA, AUS) - the third group will ridge bac up to GB a lot quicker than GB will bridge to CHN, and in Paris 24, I think the Chinese might finally do the clean sweep they've been denied the last three Olympiads, unless the Ukrainian boy wonder, or a fit Laugher stops it.

Ukraine boy wonder being Oleksii Sereda?

France winning a medal out of nowhere shows how weak most events in diving are.

Men's 3 m: Two strong chinese + Laugher -> Difficult to win a medal

Men's 10 m: Two strong chinese + maybe Tamai/Sereda -> Difficult, but possible to win a medal

Men's 3 m synchronised: China and GB are strong, but all other teams are rather weak -> Not too difficult to win a medal

Men's 10 m synchronised: China is strong, but all other teams aren't very impressive -> Not too difficult to win a medal

Women's 3 m: Two strong chinese -> Bronze is pretty open

Women's 10 m: Two strong chinese -> Bronze is pretty open

Women's 3 m synchronised: China is strong, but all other teams are rather weak -> Not too difficult to win a medal

Women's 10 m synchronised: China is strong, but all other teams are rather weak -> Not too dificult to win a medal

The absence of Russia has opened up a lot of opportunities. Also i have the feeling that Mexico (overall), the US (mainly on the men's side) and GB (mainly on the women's side) used to be stronger. I think if one nation would really focus on it, they could win 5 or 6 "easy" medals in diving. Not sure how many sports there are were you can get 5 or 6 medals that "easily".

Don't you think you're exaggerating the impact of the absence of the Russians. At the last two OG their nineteen divers managed to win just one bronze medal between them.

Was beginning to think I was the only person here who didn't see Russia as some kind of diving powerhouse :thumbup:

Yes. sorry, in-joke, it's the similarity to the Tom Daley narrative that amuses me, Jason Todd taking over from Dick Grayson...

Fun fact: We are on page 7 of comments in this thread and it's only been 3 days of competition.

During the 2022 world championships, there were literally only 7 COMMENTS in total

No. On the women's side they weren't a big factor at the last olympics, but on the men's side they definitely were. They won bronze in men's 10 m synchronized. In men's 10 m they finished 4th and 5th (behind Daley who has since retired) and in men's 3 m they finished 5th (behind Laugher who won't compete here). I think their athletes would have been clear medal contenders in at least 3 events. Also at the world championships before that they won 2 medals and finished 5th in men's 3 m synchronized, 5th in women's 10 m synchronized and 4th in women's 3 m sychronized. So overall they finished top 5 in 5 of the 8 events at the last world championships they were allowed to compete.

:USA really mugged :MEX in that final round

Not really, the US just pull themselves together after awful compulsory dives, while Orozco and Agundez throw their medal in the 4th round; if the Japanese and Canadian pairs hadn’t failed a five each, Mexico would have ended 6th.

Really solid performance by the :GBR pairing in the women's 3m synchro event to qualify for final in 3rd place in what is arguably our weakest synchro event. By coincidence, we also qualified in 3rd for men's 3m and women's 10m and went on to win silver in both - here's hoping we can make it 3 from 3 later today :d

Does anyone else have problems with the aquatics.tv stream? It's terrible quality here, yesterday was the same...

The feeds seem to be a lot more stable today - managed to get through entire women's 3m synchro without breaking up once

This team definitely has what it takes to be a top 5 team and consistently contending for medals. First time watching Kernen play, all I can say is how is she that good at only 19? • So I was watching a replay of China-Germany in between Canada’s game against Sweden and this one against Italy and… it seems like China cheated during it which could’ve been critical in them winning the match?    During the 1st end, Xu with his last rock had an easy hit for the single against three German stones. One of the sweepers for China (I can’t tell which one, this team is quite new to me) “accidentally” kicked their own stone, which redirected one of their own stones into the rings, and Germany only got the steal of 2. HIS FUCKING FOOT IS TOUCHING THE ROCK   Now after, Team Xu was claiming that the stone was picked (it was not) and Muskatewitz was arguing that it couldn’t possibly have been picked. China wouldn’t admit it, and they ended up winning the game 10-9. BOO.    Hope these cheaters don’t qualify for the Olympics.
    • Edin usually has mediocre seasons though (that being said this has been worse than usual), then really starts to show up for Worlds. He’s only won 4 GSOC events in his career.     They’re at a 4-2 record at the moment, so seems to be the case again. Plus, they played really well in their loss to Canada.

    • With a week to go till the deadline for the world invitational,the rosters look beefy for the discus on both sides.24 entries for the men[19 accepted in so far] and 25 for the women[18 accepted so far] For the men so far there are three 70 meter throwers[i count Denny as that since it's just 4 centimeters off his pb]10 from mid 66 to low 69,three of 65 and over,four from almost 64 to almost 65.On the women's side the 18 accepted throwers all have a pb of over 60 meters.11 of them have  pbs over 64 plus.of the ones still not there besides Valerie and Yaime who have been marketed so i can only assume they will join,such names as  Sandra Elkasevic,Bin Feng,and jordine van klinken aren't signed up yet,jordine's probably the most likely of them to join in tough feng would be a cool surprise,i somehow don't see Sandra doing this,but it would be awesome if she did.Stahl and ceh aren't in yet on the men's side,ceh has been marketed while stahl hasn't been mentioned at all,[pretty sure stahl will not be there],Lukas[last name is too wild for me to even try] and lawrence okoye aren't there yet either but i'm betting both will be joining in.
