Frankly, you could make a case that Canada was boosting the chances of other countries in the Lake Placid races on the 6th and 7th by entering so many uncompetitive sliders. Those are the only two NA cup races that gave 120 points for the winners. Again, completely irrelevant to their own qualifying status. -

Actually don't get it. What would the strategy be? The affected competitors are all the final few qualifiers and in no way impact Canada's chances to qualify two women. They entered two women who were competitive and withdrew others who were not. The result is reduced totals that could give the Latvian or Estonian competitors an advantage. Are they somehow involved with the Canadians in this? -
Same for Salome Kora from Switzerland -
I suppose it is about the strategy. We saw it in athletics - people calculated what they need to get to qulift and participated in the events where they could get necessary points for sure. As far as I can understand it is the same IBSF ethics body which allowed russians to compete and threatened to our children protesting at the Europa Cup. -

IBSF's own stupid fault if they have written the rules so badly as to allow something like this to happen. But I am sure there will be an "unsportsmanlike conduct" clause somewhere which will cover it. -

One worrying rumour to start your year off is that the organisation that controls the big Italian races - Giro, Strade Bianche, Milan-San Remo etc - is currently out of contract with Discovery/Eurosport etc and is looking to make a deal with a completely different provider so that is certain to be more expense for fans. -

Two passings to mention. Uljana Semjonova age 73. Twice a gold medalist in basketball for in 1976 and 1980. Her height was listed between 2.10 to 2.13 m. She is the tallest woman ever to win an Olympic gold medal. Jim Hartung age 65. He was a member of the US gymnastics team that won the gold medal in 1984.
