Swimming 2023 Discussion Thread

Very excited that the first real swimming competition in the 50m pool starts tomorrow in Lithuania.

 

A three day event, Lithuanian winter championships.

 

Rūta Meilutytė is skipping it, but Rapšys, Šidlauskas and Teterevkova are going to be present.

 

Also, I'm very interested in seeing how did the junior talents develop in this past half-year.

 

I'll update if anything interesting happens.

Kaylee McKeown is gradually returning to Tokyo form after going 57.93 at the Victorian Open Champs this evening. Also went a big PB (1:06.86) in the 100 breast yesterday which is a good sign for her IMs.

While I think she'll go 2:07 sometime soon I'm not sure it will be in Fukuoka because there's only a single event between 100 back semis and 200 IM final. Maybe World Aquatics will help her out by inserting a few medal ceremonies in between ...

Junior World Champs will be in Netanya, Israel this year.

TYR Pro Swim Series- Fort Lauderdale, Florida  (50m) | March 1-4, 2023

 

Some big names will be competing here such as Summer McIntosh, Katie Ledecky, Siobhan Haughey, Michael Andrew, Nic Fink, Simone Manuel, Regan Smith, Ryan Held, Shane Casas, Natalie Hinds, Olivia Smoliga, Abbey Weitzeil, Ericka Brown, Ryan Held, Hunter Armstrong and Diego Ribiero 

 

Summer McIntosh is an intriguing star to watch for on the road to Paris 2024. Only 16 years old, and already setting many records in the pool. She’ll be racing five events in Fort Lauderdale (200m Fly, 200m IM, 100m Free, 200m Free, 200m Back)

 

Some notable scratches are the 400m Free (#4 ALL TIME) and the 400 IM (#3 ALL TIME). Also, will be watching closely during the 100 Free H/F, she doesn’t race it very much so we could be seeing a big PB.

Surprised she chose not to do 400 Free (#4 ALL TIME)/400 IM (#3 ALL TIME), but maybe she’s focusing on the 200m races this event. Also, will be watching closely during the 100 Free H/F, she doesn’t race it very much so we could be seeing a big PB. 
 

 

Summer split 53.3 at Comm Games so is already capable of faster than her 100 Free best.

TYR Pro Swim Series- Fort Lauderdale, Florida  (50m) | March 1-4, 2023

 

Summer McIntosh dominating yet again as she drops a 2:08.24 200m fly, qualifying in first by almost four seconds   
 

McIntosh didn’t look tired at all. She also swam a 54.39 100m Free earlier on in the session. Absolutely incredible to see how quickly Summer is progressing.

Summer McIntosh 2:05.05 to take the win in the 200m Fly 

 

New PB by 0.15s, besting her time from the 2022 World Aquatic Championships where she won the gold medal 

 

Summer moves from #12 > #11 all-time in the 200m butterfly. Canadian Swim Trials  are happening later this month, and she’s looking to be in fine form. 

 

 

Bella Sims  (2:09.89) wins the silver medal, while Maria Jose Mata Cocco  (2:11.00) takes the bronze medal.

Kharun 1:54.49 to take the win in the 200 Fly    a new Canadian record by 1.68s  previously held by MacKenzie Darragh  (1:46.27. Record held since 2018 Pan-Pacific Swimming Championships) 

 

Trenton Julian  (1:55.70) wins the silver medal, while Chase Kalisz  (1:56.03) takes the bronze medal.
