XVs popularity will decline I think, at least worldwide, especially as most young athletes will begin to focus on Sevens.

Hmm not really? The viewing numbers of rugby world cup keep increasing and the money for players is in the union professional leagues, not in the sevens. Several of the sevens players have to also play XV to earn a living. I don't think a sevens player can earn money from anywhere but from what their national federation pays them.

As long as the money is in the XVs, it will always remain dominant. Hell, even rugby league is much more of a "threat" for XVs,  in that sense.

It's like expecting 3x3 to overthrow 5x5 basketball in popularity, it's just not going to happen. One format has an enormous professional structure behind, the other is far from it.

That's like expecting the Olympic sailing to be a bigger thing than pro sailing. Hasn't happened in 100 years, and will not happen any time soon.

Or if you appreciate a more action packed, faster paced game.

Nah, as a rugby noob I'm pretty sure people who actually understand strategy and who actually have a clue what's going on very much appreciate XV, more than Sevens. Much like as a speed skating fan I actually adore the 10k, whereas newer audiences who aren't really familiar with it all think "this takes longer than 30 seconds, boooooring"

I still love a good 10km, but having to watch 6 pairs in a row really makes me begin to question life.

Anyone who says sevens is better than XV is not a rugby fan :p

Sevens is better than XV, challenge accepted. (Don’t get me wrong, I still think the XV is original gangster rugby, but I just prefer sevens more). In terms of skill I sure they require a similar amount, but XV definitely requires more endurance and strategy.

Who know the women’s South American Olympic qualification thread would be so popular :dunno:

It makes me feel like a happy excited kid again. I wonder if watching a good match of XV rugby is the same for those rugby fans :p

Watching your soul leave your body and the light in your eyes dim makes me feel like a kid again. #onlytruth :p

I'm surprise that someone want compare the rugby with the rugby 7s... I think that the seven is just a commerial format for the TV and for people that don't know what the rugby really is (so, they want improve US and asian market)

    • Playa del Carmen Elite16   Women’s Tournament Gold-  Carol Solberg/Rebecca Cavalcanti Silver-  Terese Cannon/Megan Kraft Bronze-  Kristen Nuss/Taryn Brasher   Shoutout to my new favourite pairing of Hüberli/Kernen, who have backed up their silver at the Yucatán Challenge by recording a quarterfinal finish here by defeating Olympic Champions  Duda/Ana Patricia in straight sets in the round of 12 (to be fair, they looked off all event long, but they also beat Nuss/Brasher). This team definitely has what it takes to be a top 5 team and consistently contending for medals. First time watching Kernen play, all I can say is how is she that good at only 19? She’s gonna be a star in the future.    Men’s Tournament Gold-  Noslen Diaz/Jorge Alayo  Silver-  Tomas Capogrosso/Nicolas Capogrosso  Bronze-  Chaim Schalk/James Shaw    Schalk/Shaw defeated Olympic champions  Ahman/Hellvig in the quarterfinals   Full Results

    • So I was watching a replay of China-Germany in between Canada’s game against Sweden and this one against Italy and… it seems like China cheated during it which could’ve been critical in them winning the match?    During the 1st end, Xu with his last rock had an easy hit for the single against three German stones. One of the sweepers for China (I can’t tell which one, this team is quite new to me) “accidentally” kicked their own stone, which redirected one of their own stones into the rings, and Germany only got the steal of 2. HIS FUCKING FOOT IS TOUCHING THE ROCK   Now after, Team Xu was claiming that the stone was picked (it was not) and Muskatewitz was arguing that it couldn’t possibly have been picked. China wouldn’t admit it, and they ended up winning the game 10-9. BOO.    Hope these cheaters don’t qualify for the Olympics.
    • Edin usually has mediocre seasons though (that being said this has been worse than usual), then really starts to show up for Worlds. He’s only won 4 GSOC events in his career.     They’re at a 4-2 record at the moment, so seems to be the case again. Plus, they played really well in their loss to Canada.
    • I'm in tears, finally I have access after months. For some reason I can only enter the site from my phone. Surely it must be a problem with my home internet connection.
    • With a week to go till the deadline for the world invitational, the rosters look beefy for the discus on both sides.24 entries for the men[19 accepted in so far] and 25 for the women[18 accepted so far] For the men so far there are three 70 meter throwers[i count Denny as that since it's just 4 centimeters off his pb]10 from mid 66 to low 69,three of 65 and over, four from almost 64 to almost 65.On the women's side the 18 accepted throwers all have a pb of over 60 meters.11 of them have  pbs over 64 plus.of the ones still not there besides Valerie and Yaime who have been marketed so i can only assume they will join, such names as  Sandra Elkasevic,Bin Feng, and jordine van klinken aren't signed up yet, jordine's probably the most likely of them to join in tough feng would be a cool surprise,i somehow don't see Sandra doing this, but it would be awesome if she did.Stahl and ceh aren't in yet on the men's side, ceh has been marketed while stahl hasn't been mentioned at all,[pretty sure stahl will not be there],Lukas[last name is too wild for me to even try] and lawrence okoye aren't there yet either but i'm betting both will be joining in.
    • What a shame. That would have been amazing.
