Non-sports games are quite often more than button-mashing, yes  

 

Of course plenty of sports games (racing, manager games) are not button-mashing neither

Personally I didn't feel that the 2012 game was that much button-mashing. No doubt that they aren't the greatest of games, but compared to the first ones, it was pretty decent.
