@Olympian1010 When you are planning to open thread?

Hopefully in a day or two. I’m still getting a couple of things in place.

@OlympicIRL I have been thinking about a rule change for the Open contest. Or maybe it wouldn't even be a rule change, I just misinterpreted the song eligibility rule. We say that the song must be at least 5 years old. Are we saying this about song itself or the recording?

What I am saying here is what if a song is more than 5 years old, but the original artist makes a new recording, which isn't more than 5 years old? That's not a cover because it was recorded by the original artist. Can a new recording of an old song be submitted for the Open contest if it was recorded by the original artist? I think a recording like that should be eligible even if it differs from the original version in some way, as it's still an old song, performed by the original artist.

I doubt that this would be relevant in most, if not all cases, but I just want to clarify it. :)

Hi @Vektor, I'm just going out to the St.Patrick's Day parade but will give this more consideration later when I get home. I think I would be more willing to allow it as long as the song is sung by the same artist as the original and if it doesn't differ too much musically from the original.
Might be a good one to put to a vote after this contest so we have an answer before the next Open edition.

:GBR Set Sails for Britannia - TISC Open 2024  :GBR

kiefer sutherland fangirl challenge GIF

As some of you may be aware we are fast approaching our next edition of TISC Open, the 24th iteration of our international song contest here on Totallympics.

As champions in the previous edition , Great Britain have been awarded the hosting rights and I’m delighted to announce that @Cinnamon Bun has accepted. This means that we will be travelling to Great Britain for the second time and for the first time since TISC Annual 2017!
Stay tuned in the coming days and weeks for the opening of the thread for TISC Open 2024!

Rule Change Proposal:

While we wait for the opening of the new thread we do a rule change we need to vote on as proposed by @Vektor after the previous edition. This vote is open to all previous participants of TISC. As you know TISC Open is only open to songs that are 5 years or older (released before December 31st, 2019). The new rule if implemented would allow newer version of a song to be chosen, providing the original version was released more than 5 years ago, and also the new release must also be sung or performed by the original artist (not a copy from another artist).

This is not specifically a rule change, more a clarification of the existing rule to make it clearer as to what is acceptable.

Do you agree with this change:

(a) Yes

(b) No

Voting closes on August 27th, 2024 so please cast your votes now :). If the vote receives a majority vote then it will be written into the rules.
