Is there any point in having two different discussion threads for each team sport in multi-sport events that aren't the olympics?

I mean, how many posts you will see about women's or men's [insert team sport] at the asian games?

There are threads even for wrestling and badminton  I can understand that these sports are popular in Asia and that Asian Games are second most important multi-sport event after Olympics but I didn't saw separate threads for every sport for example at Pan American Games. Also why we have the thread for tennis tournament in Cincinnati if we haven't a thread for tournament in Montreal/Toronto? I think that we need separate threads for tennis only at Olympics and Grand Slams, for all other tournaments we can disscuss in one thread, otherwise we will back step by step for old totallympics and hundred threads without disscussions but with just results.

There were separate threads at 2015 pan am if i remember well. It's just that we used the main thread to comment a lot (but mostly about the progress of medal table).

As for team sports, only for Field Hockey because it's an olympic qualification event. Same for the other 3 individual sports which are qualifying events (archery, sailing and tennis). And a few other sports which could have lots of posts, to avoid having them all in the main thread. I have thought about Athletics and Swimming (big sports), Badminton and Wrestling (very high level).

If there won't be many comments it will be very easy and quick to merge the thread in that sport's discussion thread at the end of the Asian Games. And vice versa, if many comments in the main thread will be about one single sport, we can split the posts into a separate thread.

To be fair, nothing wrong with a wrestling thread for a wrestling tournament or a badminton thread for a badminton tournament. I mean, we have threads for U15 World Cups in an American sport like baseball :d

I think the point is more about a men's basketball thread and a women's basketball thread and stuff like that.

    • Have mercy, I can't last 18 days without sleep.
    • This might be unpopular but it would allow way more sports and quotas and cities to host at a lower cost.
    • I think Julia Tannheimer will continue to perform so well on the flatter courses in Ruhpolding and Antholz, which will suit her technique. Oberhof will be more exciting, the courses are very demanding, but quite comparable to the World Championships in Lenzerheide. That's why I'm really looking forward to Oberhof this season. Anyone who can cope well with the courses in Oberhof should also be able to run at the front at the World Championships.

    • Thanks for your predictions, they are very interesting.   But here it will be a different format. Combined events - pairs of athletes, one male/female will perform in downhill and other will perform in slalom. E.g. Team SUI 1 Odermatt plus Meillard.
    • Interesting (optimistic) predictions for GB. Don‘t See Them winning 5 golds (more than China and as many as Canada). I think 3 golds are more Realistic (Brookes + 2 in curling/skeleton). Especially gold for Bankes seems To be a rather optimistic prediction, given that Casta is 11 years younger and just beat Bankes.
    • Medal Table (Change from 2022)    - 20 (+4)  - 13 (+1)  - 13 (+5)  - 9 (+7)  - 9 (=)  - 7 (+2)  - 7 (=)  - 6 (-2)  - 6 (-1)  - 5 (+1)  - 5 (+4)  - 4 (+1)  - 4 (-5)  - 3 (+2)  - 2 (=)  - 1 (=)  - 1 (+1)      -5,  -2,  -2,  -2, , -1, , -1, , -1 fail to male the list   On 1st glance 1 feel I have underestimated Canada, Sweden and Finland, and overestimated GB (obviously) and Netherlands.    If the Russians aren't competing then the Norwegians will have a field day in cross country skiing, but it is too early to tell.   World cups and championships aren't always the best measure for some sports but it's the best I can find.      As an overall trend I feel this will be a strong games for the European nations (home advantage) but the Asian nations might struggle, not necessarily at the extent I predicted here but I don't think their results will be as good as Beijing.
