I think the village size won't be a big problem again and I'm OK with the naturalization as it will trigger tenser competition and Qatar and Bahrain will do it anyway.

If the AG will make Saudi Arabia accept the women's sports and women spectators, it would be a huge progress and I will definitely vote for them.

they simply don't have enough hotels for all those athletes, officials, fans, spectators. AG is still a big event but we know not so many people travel to watch the competition.

and while Qatar and Bahrain always naturalize but it's very different when Qatar hosts, they buy an entire Handball team when they host the WCh, how many players they added to that team ? not much. as far as I know in other times it's more like those athletes offer themselves to Qatar. while when they host Qatar simply search the world for eligible athletes to buy.

well OCA let Indonesia drop as many events as they wanted from 2018 AG (for different reasons off course) I'm not sure if they push Saudi into hosting anything they don't want. it will be an interesting challenge.

I'm not so sure about things in Saudi Arabia, my knowledge is limited about them but as far as I know the country is not ready for this yet. this is tooooo much for a country where most women don't even leave the house without their husbands. and nobody else (I mean no other men) never saw their faces in their entire life ! (except husband, father, brother) you can't simply jump from 0 to 100. things should develop slowly

I hope it will be held in West or Central Asia and looking forward to Saudi's response to women's sports as it can't be a men's game only.

Even so, I think politics will play its part again and MBS can use the Games as the main showcase for the Saudi 2030 Vision.

If they win, I somehow feel that something will happen and we will have a replacement for the host :p

Swimming and Golf have both pulled out of the 2022 European Championships. I expected the European Championships model to lash much longer than this. I’d never thought I’d reach the day where the European Games had a higher chance of success than the European Championships :yikes:

Thanks for bringing me some good news for a good day end/beginning (yes, I've lost control on my biological clock once again).

Since OCA is still tight-lipped on Asian Winter Games, it looks like we can expect there won't be AWG in super congested 2021

I’m surprised they’ve only just made this official. I believe we’re just over a year out from the scheduled dates. The dates are already an issue too since they conflict with the World Combat Games in Kazakhstan!

It’s official. 2021 is worse than 2020. There’s literally zero multi-sports games left besides an Olympic that might not happen. At least 2022 will be epic :(

    • Here's all the confirmed NHLers so far that I could find. Some big names are going. Once the 1st round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs is over, more names should be added    Canada Macklin Celebrini, F (San Jose Sharks) Travis Konecny, F (Philadelphia Flyers) Brandon Montour, D (Seattle Kraken) Ryan O'Reilly, F (Nashville Predators) Zayne Parekh, D (Calgary Flames) (only pre-tournament games are confirmed) Travis Sanheim, D (Philadelphia Flyers) Mackenzie Weegar, D (Calgary Flames)   Bo Horvat and Kent Johnson aren't confirmed but they are both willing to play if asked apparently. Sidney Crosby is considering.    Czechia Filip Hronek, D (Vancouver Canucks) Jakub Lauko, F (Boston Bruins) Karel Vejmelka, G (Utah Hockey Club) Dan Vladar, G (Calgary Flames)   David Pastrnak is possible    Finland Justus Annunen, G (Nashville Predators) Juuso Parssinen, F (New York Rangers) Juuse Saros, G (Nashville Predators) Teuvo Teravainen, F (Chicago Blackhawks) Eeli Tolvanen, F (Seattle Kraken)    Germany Philipp Grubauer, G (Seattle Kraken) Moritz Seider, D (Detroit Red Wings)    Sweden Rasmus Andersson, D (Calgary Flames) Mikael Backlund, F (Calgary Flames) Leo Carlsson, F (Anaheim Ducks) William Eklund, F (San Jose Sharks) Filip Forsberg, F (Nashville Predators) Adam Larsson, D (Seattle Kraken) Isac Lundestroem, F (Anaheim Ducks) Marcus Pettersson, D (Vancouver Canucks) Alexander Wennberg, F (San Jose Sharks)   Mika Zibanejad is also likely. Tom Willander (Vancouer Canucks prospect) is also confirmed but possibly only for pre-tournament games.    United States Matty Beniers, F (Seattle Kraken) Matt Coronato, F (Calgary Flames) Conor Garland, F (Vancouver Canucks) Cutter Gauthier, F (Anaheim Ducks) Clayton Keller, F (Utah Hockey Club) Michael Kesselring, D (Utah Hockey Club) Jackson LaCombe, D (Anaheim Ducks) Will Smith, D (San Jose Sharks) Tage Thompson, F (Buffalo Sabres) Alex Vlasic, D (Chicago Blackhawks)   K'Andre Miller, Jeremy Swayman, Dustin Wolf not confirmed but say they're interested
    • Regarding the swimming they have added the 800m for men and the 1500m for women so cutting numbers would be odd.
    • That quota I’ve been told by an athlete aiming to qualify who I know online.
    • Has the quota for Canada been offically confirmed anyway, or is that just a rumour? I can't find anything on google about it (nor the suggested quota for England's athletes someone posted earlier).   12 per gender would make sense (it's roughly what Canada sent to Birmingham). 12 overall seems dumb.
    • Some sports have qualification systems   3x3 basketball (wheelchair) Para-cycling Powerlifting Weightlifting
    • In the past few games, Canada (and other nations) was given an overall athlete quota which they then divided it through the various sports.
    • Whose decision was this, Team Canada's or the Organising committes?
    • I’ve been told there are no straight finals planned for the swimming.
    • I’m suprsied the games is still that big!
    • Actually now that I look at the numbers, it makes even less sense. Almost the entire reduction of 4800 athlete down to 3000 is explained by the removal of events. There's no reason to halve our swim team, considering we likely have the third strongest team
