Belgian women's team in improving very quickly. Netherlands was a bit better today, but I expect a :NED - :BEL in the final again. Maybe Belgium shows us then what they are really worth.

They have improved but I think literally every game between these teams in the last 3 years has finished 2-1 or 2-0 so today's match is far from being novelty.

Women's hockey is so stagnant right now that I could win very easily any prediction contest about it. Always the same results and with very similar scores.

Scores in group games;

Wins by 6 - once

Wins by 5 - six times

Wins by 4 - twice

Wins by 3 - once

Wins by 2 - twice

wins by 1 - none

A huge gap between the top 4 and the others (and top 3 in reality as Germany beat England 5-0 too)

The top three together with :ARG and :AUS seem to be the main contenders for medals next year judging by the results in last winter's international hockey league.

Yes, though also GB is usually stronger than England. I don't know if it's the welsh players or a better preparation but the trend of the last decade is that they show up at the olympics after doing nothing for the other 3 years and 11 months.

Netherlands and Germany are definitely a cut above the rest of the European teams but don't think there is that much of a difference between Belgium and England but we'll see on Saturday when they are in the 3rd place play-off :d

    • Yes, but Geiger and Wellinger have both achieved some success in major events, while Paschke hasn't. Geiger certainly has a better chance in Cortina than Paschke at now, but it has to be the his decision to withdraw and give a chance to his team- mate. Otherwise, it wouldn't be fair to him. I don't think Horngacher will force him to withdraw.
