@MHSN Could you please tell me there's nothing bad or Salimi-like about Reza Dehdar? I've just finished watching the 102kg at the world champs and he's my instant new favourite Iranian :d What a CJ technique and what a fighter

:d he sounds like a nice guy. and everybody liked him during the Worlds. and nobody knew him before the World Championship and he was a 96kg weightlifter but had to move up weight because of the stupid Rostami because 96kg was already "full" and that turned out to be a good chance and he won a medal at 102kg !

Plus every 100+kg guy doing a backflip gets a bonus point :d

If you'd like to help our fellow Totallympics member Bruna Moura get to the 2026 Winter Olympics, after her car crash on the way to the 2022 Olympics, every tiny bit of help would be greatly appreciated! Full story and how to help can be found here!

  • 1 month later...

as of last night, IWF officially disqualified the 2012 Olympic Champion Oleksiy Torokhtiy ! we knew that for a year but in situations like this , first we hear the news of IOC disqualifying the guy, and then few months later IWF modifies the result but IWF website shows IOC already banned the guy, probably few months ago but they just forgot to make it public !  :mumble:

now officially Navvab Nasirshalal from Iran will be upgraded to the gold medal position. Bartlomiej Bonk of Poland will receive the silver medal. but still we have to wait for the bronze medal because eventual 4th placer Ruslan Nurudinov is also banned by IOC (not yet by IWF) and when they finish his case, the bronze medal will go to his countryman Ivan Efremov.

and this will be Iran's 3rd gold medal after re-testing ! :yikes::yikes:   and 2 of those new Olympic Champions were last minute replacements ! if someone checks this guy Nasirshalal's resume, his next best result is bronze at the Asian Championships  speaking of luck and having the best day of your career at the right time.

now Iran has 7 gold medals in that Olympics, same as Japan ! and only 1 less than sport powerhouses like Italy and Australia :d only if they could win those medals in the competition and not 7 years later :d:d

----------------------------

Edit: checking IOC website, actually they disqualified him tonight ! still it should be months ago though,

so what ? that was really a stupid and irrelevant comment,

what does that mean ? Iran do not want to win medal in women's sport ? and who's Iran btw ?

how many Muslim countries have the same number of medals won by men and women ? maybe just 1 or 2, probably even nobody. this is more a cultural thing. even before the "Islamic Revolution" Iran never had any kind of achievement in women's sports. all of female Olympians almost finished last in their competitions. nowadays it's different girls are more interested in sports, but still it will take years to make up for those years being far behind, and there are also some limitations in some sports because of the dress code.

and Iran is not a "person" to cares about anything. it's a country. most people in the country care but some do not care and even do not believe in equality. but things don't improve overnight. it takes time (Iran already has better women's team in some sports) and off course the current situation doesn't help. improving women's sport is not a priority right now in the country, there are million other priorities right now. that's a lengthy topic and I'm not going to write more for you.

and apparently human right is a relative thing, people talk about it only when it's in their benefit to do so,

Dear MHSN,

I'm very sorry for my behavior. I love "open Iran" - form the time of the Shah. That is why it is very difficult for me to accept what happened to such a beautiful country in the lat few decades. Accept my apology.

Regards

And what about Beijing. Iran were behind India when the games completed so after reallocations are they still behind India.

Beijing 2008 was a complete disaster, the exact opposite of London 2012.  and reallocations also didn't change anything.

    • those who say that in the future, due to global warming and lack of snow, all sports at the Winter Olympics will have to be held indoors. Do you even think about what you are talking about? The FIS Cross-Country World Cup distances are 20 km skiathlon and 50 km mass start. Is there even a facility in the world that can host 20 and 50 km races? Is it possible? Well, let's imagine that such a facility was built somewhere in Paris and Monaco. Les Rousses spent so much money on building the tracks and infrastructure and then kicked it out of the FIS Cross-Country World Cup because Paris and Monaco, which have more money came to the FIS Cross-Country World Cup. Places like Les Rousses would simply go bankrupt trying to popularize the FIS Cross-Country World Cup, do we really need that?
    • Any word about TV Coverage?  Discovery has the five senior races as normal, but no sign of the age group races.  Locked away on Belgian payTV?
    • Ah good, was wondering what the relationship of Endurance Rowing was to Coastal Rowing.  They're wimping out a bit holding it at Genoa though, would prefer somewhere a bit more storm-tossed.

    • Thanks @phelps for gathering information   but World Skate is an Olympic federation now, yet they can't provide a basic result system for their main event.    OK I'm not asking for a live score system, but how hard it is to post results in PDF after each event ?    not talking about the sport but this IF doesn't deserve to be in the Olympics.

    • Judging always takes two or three minutes in these competitions - longer even for possible medal runs - for reasons above, so just saying DNI is a way of saying it's not worth comparing a fall on the third hit to a fall on the fourth hit since neither are going to affect the overall.
