Shooting CAT American Championships 2018

The event will serve for 2020 Olympic qualification for the American continent and will grant 1 quota for each individual event, except for trap, where 2 quotas will be available for both men and women. You will find here the programme:

From the OQ point of view, this will be very interesting, as in shooting only USA obtained olympic quotas in Changwon. Specifically, they earned a quota in the male 50m rifle 3 positions and three quotas in skeet, 1 man and 2 women. It will also be interesting to see if any American nation will be able to sweep two titles in both men and women's 10 m air rifle, 10 m air pistol and trap, in order to grant also a composite mixed team quota for the olympic mixed team events.

  • 2 weeks later...

Entry list

So just one week before this event is due to start.

Not only Olympic qualification, but also the last spots for next year's Pan American Games (another Tokyo qualification event) should be distributed. For this later event, and after a brief scan, every participating athlete (up to the limit by NOC) should secure a place in women's trap, and skeet in both genders.

I will try to attend the air events next weekend.

A bit disappointing that there doesn't seem to be a lot of nations here (22). TO2015 had 25 for ex.

I agree, especially because it's also an Olympic qualification event :(

What happens if Rhode or Connor end 1st place in skeet women?

My understanding is the best placed athlete that has not qualified a spot gets it.

    • It's close between Mexico and Venezuela. Mexico probably has the better pitching but I think Venezuela is far superior when it comes to star power. They have pretty much all their top guys on offense besides Altuve.   I did accidentally forget Cuba. Call me crazy but I'm placing them 7th behind Panama. Panama is my dark horse team for the tournament and Cuba isn't looking too pretty these days to be honest especially on offense although Canada, Panama and Cuba are all probably roughly in the same tier. Maybe Puerto Rico as well since they're missing their 3 best players on offense.

    • The Italian team has already achieved a better result than the Chinese team in 2022 at home. The Italian team has made enormous progress since 2023, when we were still losing to Korea and Poland. Of course, this is mainly due to naturalizations, but China did the same. It's one of the few sports that have made significant progress before these Olympics and this is how it should be in most disciplines at home games.
