17 year old Trinity SHADD-CERES has a jump of 6.49 in the long jump in August, impressive! However it seems like she is more focused on volleyball atm.

DL Final in Eugene, Oregon just finished. Overall, a great showing.

Marco Arop placed second behind Wanyoyni in the men’s 800m, in 1:43.84 (NR, overtaking Brandon McBride’s 1:44.20)

Sarah Mitton recorded a best mark of 19.94m in women’s shot put, placing second behind Ealey.

Andre DeGrasse won the men’s 200m in 19.76, which bodes well for him going into Paris.

43 year old Malindi Elmore, who is an Athens (!) and Tokyo Olympian, got the Olympic Marathon standard in Berlin and came within 18 seconds of the Canadian record. She will automatically qualify for the Olympics unless three or more Canadian women hit the standard.

I'm not sure where to put this, but Shawn Barber, world champion pole vaulter, has died at the age of 29. It's always so tragic when someone so young dies. He popped into my head a few weeks ago, wondering what happened to him after Rio. RIP.

    • Also it being illegal in France means the IOC will have to test everyone pre arriving at 2030 and can’t wait till they arrive at the Games to do so. I’m sure at 2028 for some sports testing will happen on site if it’s not a rule of its governing body for non Olympic events. So far only a few sports like Athletics and Boxing have that rule - I suspect others will adopt it but others might take time.
    • https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/articles/cpwj78lxypro ‘In France - one of a number of countries where genetic testing is illegal without a medical prescription due to privacy laws - the government has condemned the decision as "a step backwards". "It defines the female sex without taking into account the biological specificities of intersex individuals, whose sexual characteristics present natural variations, leading to a reductive and potentially stigmatising approach," claimed French Sports Minister Marina Ferrari.”   ‘A group of legal experts in human rights and sports have since expressed, external"urgent concern" about what they called "the regressive move toward genetic testing as a precondition of participation in women's sport" which they say "violate domestic and international laws that protect human rights and regulate the use of genetic testing and genetic information".  The group has called on athletes "to challenge the national or regional implementation of mandatory genetic sex testing, demanded by the IOC or international federations, before domestic courts, by invoking national or regional laws protecting human rights, prohibiting anti-discrimination, and regulating the use of genetic testing and genetic data".’   Domestic laws are more challenging for the IOC to deal with than CAS. Things could get complicated for a bit.
    • Except NOC’s and governing bodies have to still follow local laws. Particularly for Under 18’s there could certainly be domestic legal issues regarding associations paying for travel to other counties to circumvent a domestic ban. Child protection services don’t always act reasonable to attempts to break a domestic law.
