Competition formats for Paris 2024 are approved: https://www.issf-sports.org/news.ashx?newsid=3736

They changed format again in rifle/pistol, it's becoming ridiculous.

The Canadian government introduced a new bill to essentially ban guns in Canada. This will effectively kill the sport here. Curious to see how other countries deal with gun?

The sport was already on life support in Canada. The changes in qualification already negatively impacts us since there are so few world quotas now. Throw in the fact that other Pan American nations are increasing their quality and I wouldn't be surprised if Canada fails to qualify anyone in 2024.

I don´t know, this should not have any impact on the matter, for example it never was a deal here. We are quite good in this sport despite the guns are not easy to take here at all. :p You need to undergo various tests to receive a gun license, it apply also for athletes in gun-sports

:AUS is another country with strict gun laws, but they still have sport shooters, and even held shooting as part of the Commonwealth Games.

From what I read this morning, it doesn’t sound like the laws pushed by Trudeau really target the weapons used in sport shooting at the Olympic/Pan Am/Commonwealth level. Most of those events use shotguns, small bore rifles, and air guns, which weren’t a part of the proposed legislation as far as I can tell. The BBC even had this quote from Trudeau, “Other than using firearms for sport shooting and hunting, there is no reason anyone in Canada should need guns in their everyday lives.”

“Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. Sport can create hope where once there was only despair” - Nelson Mandela

if Italy wins all those medals with our laws, it's the best example that weapons are not needed outside the shooting range to become a good shooter (or just to start the sport of shooting)...;)

But then again, San Marino is pretty liberal with guns and they get the best results per capita. :p

    • need to work on the celebrations... or just drop them?   Btw, these jerseys suck and I remember Zambia playing in all white with red numbers. At least they have orange on national flag but still...
    • British Columbia in general and Vancouver in particular are awesome and it’s great more people got to discover it thanks to Vancouver 2010.
    • And of course the British being famous for curmudgeons, there were always plenty of curmudgeons to quote.  Then of course from the opening ceremony and the cycle race on the very first morning it was obviously going to be triumph, so everyone just shut up for a while.
    • Yep, the amount of emergency services I heard at some point was a little extreme (for our little town), so I checked what was going on and saw they were all being called to a specific location. Until then I thought maybe it was part of a parade of trucks and agricultural vehicles that was on it's way from the next town over, decorated with lights and stuff.   Since I knew it was on the parade route, I was sure one of those big vehicles had hit people somehow (there were, besides the many vehicles, also two helicopters on the way, meaning it certainly wasn't about a single victim).   We picked our bikes and went to take a look, absolutely chaos in the area. Never saw so many services combined together, fire trucks from 20km away, ambulance after ambulance came racing by, people frantically trying to make way for them (the roads weren't really closed yet).   While there we heard someone who had been close say that the parade hadn't arrived yet and what seemed to have happened was that a car from the other side came onto the roundabout and simply never turned. "It's a massive drama over there, unbelievable", he said.   Quite quickly rumours started spreading of course, the first one turned out to be true: a middle aged (local) woman was behind the wheel and seems to have become unwell. Local security camera showed the car going at high speed right before the roundabout.   Plenty of rumours going around in terms of who were involved of course, and people keeping each other up to date to see if they know this or that family and such...   Never expected my little town to be big news in the Netherlands, even including some breaking broadcasts, live reporters and everything, damn. By far the biggest thing to happen here in my memory

    • For me, these were very good Olympics, and British sport benefited greatly from them, and is still benefiting. I fear it will be much worse here. Canada also benefited very good on Vancouver 2010 – this is very good see in the medal standings of subsequent Winter Games after 2010 and earlier.
    • Nobody hates Britain more than the British media so… I recall it being quite a pessimistic tone before the London games started.
    • I'm curious what was written before London 2012? Did they attack their own country, or did they just keep quiet?

    • Very true point.  Although I think at this point everyone is just holding their collective breath until the test event.  The NHL isn't going to rage anymore until then because it's not like that would make the arena progress go any quicker
