Viktoriya Tereshchuk of Ukraine, who won bronze in the women's individual modern pentathlon event at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, has been stripped of her medal by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) after failing a retrospective drugs test.

Belarus' Anastasiya Samusevich is now set to move into bronze medal position after she finished fourth in 2008.

Amazing! Prokopenko really deserved an Olympic medal, and I'm so glad she's on her way to get one, now!

Turkish duo Bulut and Abeylegesse to officially be stripped of medals

Turkey's Gamze Bulut will not be awarded the London 2012 Olympic gold medal she was in line to receive from compatriot Aslı Çakır Alptekin after the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) annulled her results from 2011 onwards.

The IAAF announced today that Bulut, second in the notorious 1,500 metres race at London 2012, will also lose the European title she won in Helsinki in 2012 as a result of an "athlete biological passport (ABP) case".

Bulut's team-mate Elvan Abeylegesse is also set to be stripped of the two silver medals she claimed at the Beijing 2008 Olympics over 5,000m and 10,000m.

She was banned for two years last year by the Turkish Athletics Federation after being revealed as one of 28 athletes for whom adverse findings were revealed by the IAAF.

This followed re-testing of samples from the 2005 and 2007 World Championships with the 34-year-old Ethiopian-born runner also relinquishing her 10,000m silver medal from the 2007 World Championships in Osaka.

It comes after the IAAF confirmed she had failed a test at the event in the Japanese city, meaning her results from July 25, 2007 to July 25, 2009 were annulled.

well we heard about that few months ago, about both him and Fedoryshin and UWW didn't deny that. (they denied rumors about Togrul Asgarov which means they deny false rumors)

and to be honest we knew this for a long time. he was my favorite non-Iranian wrestler but still we knew he is up to something, this is not a good day for wrestling fans :(

I wonder if they already tested his 2012 sample and it's negative or that's for the future.

    • It was also nice to have actual crowds again. I think the Beijing organizers did the best they could given the COVID regulations that still existed in China at the time, but it sure did dampen the atmosphere *a lot*.
    • I was in premium economy as well, the extra five inches of leg room definitively helped me stay sane.   For BA I was in business class and I just wasn't impressed at all, despite the cabin itself being really good (it was a 787-900 so their newer business class product). The service was just... not good enough for international business class - they actually made me appreciate Air Canada xD . With Condor I could forgive the service not being that good because of how little (relatively) I paid, and the seat was comfortable enough.
    • Yes. This was the best WOG since at least Sochi 2014. I only started paying attention to the Olympics after London 2012, so small sample size. But, this was the best WOG I can remember. European fans and atmosphere make everything better in my opinion.
    • There were lots of good moments , this olympics felt so special (I am talking of WOG). The last time I really enjoyed viewing WOG was in Sochi & this tops it. So many feel good moments, very well attended event with spectators filling up stands & making an atmosphere. So many top performances, but for me the  women team dominating the Biathlon event was really special. All 3 of them were just so good & gave top performance. I love it how the female commentator pronounced  Lou Jeanmonnot  & finally grazie mille  we loved it! Thanks for making me fall in love with winter sports again
    • I'm surprised that some Hungarians here are interested in some Nazis in Kiev, instead of their country's economic decline over the last 15-20 years, falling under Romania's level of GDP, when around 2000 it was the richest country in the all former post-communist region. But I understand that this is Orban's tactic to continue ruling and stealing the country, to distract from truly important matters and focus on trivial matters. Clinton's campaign slogan in the USA many years ago: "The economy, stupid!" I think that the current opposition leader in HUN should probably do the same- just do your thing and let Orban himself with all of this Soros, Nazis, etc, only the Martians are still missing in this madness, but that may come to pass
    • I found Condor really nice. I did upgrade myself, so maybe thats why. I would fly them again
    • So, wanted to update on this now that I’m back home in Seattle to say I had a really good time in Milan. I ended up not going to events outside of Milan (I went to short track, speed skating and hockey), and it was probably a good decision to keep things simple for my first Olympics.   Getting around in Milan was a breeze, and I feel things were pretty well organized at the venues (though the ice hockey venue definitively could have used a couple more weeks of work). I was especially pleased with the speed skating venue, given it’s a temporary track it looked really good once you were actually in your seat and things were well organized for spectators (even though it was a looooong walk to and from the train station).   So ya, happy with the experience, as a newbie to both attending the Olympics and traveling in Europe. Def made me want to attend the French Alps in 2030 (and subject them to my horrible-for-a-native French accent xD )   Thanks to  for being good hosts.   As an aside, I now understand why people dislike British Airways, and Condor was surprisingly okay, though it was definitively a "you get what you paid for" situation (flew SEA-LHR to get to Europe and FRA-SEA on the way back).   Edit: oh, and big shout-out to the volunteers who were universally lovely.
    • Hello everyone, and yes, on the road to LA28! I’m sure there will be some great discussions here.   I made a profile here four years ago and now I’ve finally become active   Better late than never.
