So Poland is 90% qualified, right? I can't see them losing to Germany.

Well, you can't take anything for granted. We can still qualify if we lose but Canada beats Dominicana IIRC.

Even if Brazil loses in the quarterfinals, I'm already surprised by this team.

After 2016 there was a concern, because we had practically no players to replace that Olympic champion team (our under 18 and under 20 teams are mostly a joke). The result was several defeats for teams like Germany and Colombia. And now the team is playing solid again, and most importantly with new players.

And of course, all this thanks to our spectacular coach.

:CAN beat :DOM 3-2 so Poland has qualified to the quarter-finals (for the first time since 1962).

If they beat Germany 3-0 or 3-1 they will play :USA again. 3-2 win or any loss means :SRB will be the QF rival.

Why on earth teams from Group E and F will play against each other again? Why it couldnt be 1E with 4F, 2E with 3F and so on?

To avoid travelling between Netherlands and Poland. Teams that would travel for QF would be clearly disadvantaged. This is still unavoidable for the final & 3rd place match so the Gliwice SF will be played one day before the Apeldoorn SF.

First two QF are done:

:ITA beat :CHN 3-1

:USA beat :TUR 3-0

I almost feel bad for Japan. Some of the most intense defenses I've seen in my life. Fukudome is a fighter, no question about it. But I'm happy for this Brazilian team, of course. I can't see they beating Italy again, but you never know.

    • Honestly, I think you guys have a much better chance of success here than we do. It's already difficult to maintain this sport, and with this ridiculous format this year, things have gotten even worse. Years and years participating in the elite and we haven't been able to evolve; it was just a waste.

    • Another weak result for our athletics team, which is typical; without Caio or Alisson, our chances of a medal in any high-level tournament are almost zero.   However, Juliana's result in the women's pole vault was a great 7th place. She is improving rapidly and still has a lot of room for growth.
