do they still score 10-9-8-7-6 for the free skating parts ? that's one of the dumbest scoring systems ever. it should be at very least 10-8-6-4-2. even though you always should give more value to a 1st place finish. in this format the difference between 1st and 2nd is exactly the same as the diff between 9th and 10th

Yes, and it's indeed super stupid.

 

My proposed fix for this: 8 teams make the free (this still means a max of two flights per event), and we use this scoring system: 15 - 13 - 11 - 9 - 7 - 5 - 3 - 1, so the free's value is more in line with how it is in regular figure skating.

what's up with USA and Japan using reserve guys for the free skating? is that because they know they are almost guaranteed of silver and bronze and want to give their reserve guys a chance to win a medal too? (in this format no big change will happen after the end of short programs)

 

which sucks IMO, teams should not be allowed to replace someone just for that reason. (only in case of injuries)

 

everything is wrong with this team event this is so unnecessary (saying that as a figure skating fan) but at least if you are going to have a "mixed team event" do it right.

Yeah, they are using this bug to maximize the number of medalists. Still, it's not like their nation's level drops dramatically with these substitution.

Like, no hard feelings, but I am glad Sadovsky is not coming away with a medal from this.

A horror show by Roman here, falling on a singled jump and in the middle of a step sequence. Hopefully he can have a better performance in the individual event (obviously no shot at a medal, but it's always nice to see people skate their best).

Misato Komatsubara and Tim Koleto are going to win an Olympic medal, which is only marginally better :P

I would suggest just having the short programs and that's it. I think they are avoiding 10-8-6-4-2 in order not to (potentially) traumatize skaters before their individual events. Oh well.
