From the way the press release is worded, it doesn't seem like CAS has made that ruling.  Don't know what this means, but it sounds like the ISU now gets to make the decision.  So they could either nullify just Valieva's results and that would theoretically give ROC the bronze.  Or they could disqualify the whole federation and then Canada would presumably get upgraded.

I mean, this is such an outlier case, Russia is so innocent when it comes to doping there's no way anyone could know, or even join in the doping on the team.

Will Canada get a medal then?

If it's up to the IOC, there probably won't be anymore news until their EB Meeting in March (at least, that's the theory I've read).

Interestingly, CAS cited Russian Anti-Doping Rules, which don't provide any additional protection from consequences for "protected persons," as much of the basis for their ruling.

Yeah, what CAS are saying is that it's not their decision to make.  The IOC decides who gets their medals.  But I can't imagine that the IOC are going to do anything crazy on this.  Well, on second thoughts.....

Second thoughts - Actually, of course, the ISU are the people who decide, not the IOC.  The IOC are only the hosts, the ISU govern the sport.

The ISU, and only the ISU, determines the results of the competition.  The IOC will then act accordingly to make sure the correct athletes get their medals.  The good thing is that this isn't a re-allocation since the medals were never awarded in the first place.

My hope would be that they work together to make this happen in Montreal in March.  But I don't have that much faith in either side to do this properly and with the respect these athletes deserve after they were robbed of justice in Beijing.

The ISU will meet to decide the final results on 7th February then the IOC will rule on the medals at a later date

I'm absolutely in favor of doing the official ceremony during the opening ceremony.

That would completely be my choice.  But would Thomas Bacholympicchampionfencing1976 wish to admit he was wrong?  I doubt it. So probably some evening ceremony mid-Games.

It’s actually in the rules that athletes who get a relocated medal can request a medal ceremony at the next Olympics. So yes.

She wasn’t a top-tier athlete in that program anymore. She was at the end of her career. I would personally would rather race against Katie. She’s not as competitive as the other athletes,” he said. “It’s probably really unfair to say and not really where I want to go with this but that’s where we are with that.”   Uhlaender: “If I were Canada, I would be concerned in how this coach is representing the Olympic values for his country,” Uhlaender told Fox News Digital. “He hurt a whole field of athletes, all with dreams, and this sends the message that they don’t matter unless they are number one. All athletes matter, and we all deserve to compete fairly, with integrity, and respect. He did not respect anyone in that field. “This is not about my resume or how good the athletes were in the race. This is about the fact that he intentionally manipulated the competition to hurt myself and 13 other countries because he felt it necessary to eliminate all possibility. That is against the spirit of sport and not what the Olympic movement represents.”   Isn't it great when other people's dirty laundry is aired?  /sarcasm     (I was a little surprised to see NPR pick this up, but per this article, Uhlaender preemptively recorded the phone call after receiving a text from Cecchini that said he had 'bad news' for her.)
    • Idea (that I don't want to mess with right now, but someone else can steal the idea): Could feed the docs from LA28 + Paris 2024 through AI and see what it says.  (Would just take downloading them, perhaps merging them for ease of upload, and passing it through.)
    • If you have time would love to see a sport by sport overview of the changes/new sports
    • Slowly going through the documents.   Looks like canoe slalom qualifiers will be a bit different. More kayak cross quotas which will let nations to essentially qualify two kayakers.
    • How about we choose either Rome or Milano  I hate this timeline we have entered of multiple host cities / countries. The football World Cup became ludicrous, we don't need the Olympics to join them. At least not more than they already are.
