she will possibly run 8 races in 8 days, while Zatopek had only 4 races in 8 days in 1952. so crazy

Given her recent form, it'd be great if she can win a medal, period. If Fanny Blankers-Koen were still alive, she definitely wouldn't be worried about her four gold medal female record

You have to admire the kamikaze nature of it, though. It's such an amateur move, in the best sense of that word - a devil may care, "why not" attitude while all her rivals, some already with the advantage on her, carefully and professionally plot their way to a singular target. As an Irishman I'm profundly amused, yet p that Dan Wiffen, on the eve of the most important 1500m of his life, has thought, bugger it, lets swim for 2 hours  in the Seine sewer just for the craic as well!

 

It's supposed to be fun. It's refreshing that some of them remember that.

To counteract my earlier point, Ireland have named a squad of 7 women 400m runners. 3 individual and 4 relay only. 2 men for the mixed relay (with a travelling reserve that isn’t being counted)

And I hope this is a mistake, but 2020 olympic marathon runner  Sharon Firisua is listed as competing in 100 metres. Like... this has to be  amistake, rigth?
