What kind of question is this?

Something that apparently at least one person has taken too seriously.

I know @heywoodu was joking, but he made me remember that once we had a Winter Pan American Games in 1990. But of course USA and Canada won all the medals and the idea has not been revived since - there was only 1 sport anyway (alpine skiing) :p

I wonder if today participation would increase and maybe Brazil could win a medal at something :mumble: (at least Mexico or Colombia would probably win a bronze medal in Ice Hockey considering a participation of Canada and USA with some Z teams)

Add curling/mixed doubles curling and you've got yourself a firm bronze medal candidate :cheer:

And if it's in the USA or Canada and bobsleigh is on it, Brazil might have a shot as well if Edson Bindilatti stays active :p

Where else would it be? They would build a track in Mexico/Argentina for some Pan American experiment?

What I meant was that for bobsleigh to be on it, first it would of course have to be in the USA or Canada :p

So:

If it's there and if they also decide to add bobsleigh, then etc

Pan American Winter Games would in theory work, and allow for smaller nations to look forward to something?

However, for it to work, Canada/USA would have to view it as a developmental event.

It would be great if the idea of these Games could be revived at the near future, and I don't think the costs would be that higher if they pick existing venues in Canada or USA.

I actually think they should revisit the idea

Just by looking at who qualified/almost qualified to the 2018 Winter Olympics a winter Pan American Games is feasible though some sports (ski jumping, nordic combined, ice hockey) will likely not be held and some sports would have fewer events. The quality would be low, but it's good exposure for the athletes and it may get some roller skaters to hop on some ice skates.

    • Regarding the swimming they have added the 800m for men and the 1500m for women so cutting numbers would be odd.

    • Has the quota for Canada been offically confirmed anyway, or is that just a rumour? I can't find anything on google about it (nor the suggested quota for England's athletes someone posted earlier).   12 per gender would make sense (it's roughly what Canada sent to Birmingham). 12 overall seems dumb.

    • In the past few games, Canada (and other nations) was given an overall athlete quota which they then divided it through the various sports.
    • Whose decision was this, Team Canada's or the Organising committes?
