I am quite grateful that Japan successfully host this very different OG despite all kinds of difficulties including internal protests and rapidly changing COVID situation. It is not wonderful since there is no spectators but it's respectful to fulfill its commitment to the international society. So I would not ask too much from Japan, on the contrary I am grateful of what they offered.

I am not satisfied with the creepy opening ceremony and I don't like Japanese athletes sometimes over-scored on sports judged by referees. But when it all ends, that feeling is just let go. I began to appreciate that it's quite difficult to host the games with so much pressure and you can't require the host to benefit 0 with so much cost.

So I would like to sincerely thank Japan. It provided a wonderful stage for athletes and provided so much joy, excitement, up and downs for fans. Arigoto Nippon :JPN. Lastly hope we can have spectators in Beijing 2022. If so I will wave my hands in TV.

1. I rated 8/10. We have a big recovery from Rio flop. Our traditional sports like diving, weightlifting, table tennis are consistent while badminton and gymnastics are recovered from Rio underperformance. Swimming and Athletics are a little bit better than I thought, we have first swimming relay gold and first field events gold. Rowing, Canoeing and Sailing all received at least one gold and all receiving medals on men's events. What disappointed me is that we have no golds on combat sports with 5 silvers and 4 bronzes. We have to strengthen combat sports for next OG.

2. Surprises go to WR and gold on swimming 4*200 women's free relay and gold of swimming men's 200m IM. Also shooting with 4 golds are also beyond my expectation. Heatbreaks go to Women's Volleyball eliminated on group stage and no golds on Taekwondo, 4-time olympian Wu Jingyu gonna retire again without a medal.

3.The overall goal is definitely achieved. The performance of most sports are beyond or meet expectations. Only combat sports are a little disappointing.

4.Sports with potential and receiving good results in Tokyo will be much more invested for sure. These sports are Rowing, Canoeing and Sailing. These sports are already "rich" compared to some combat sports like wrestling, with gold in pocket and breakthrough on men's events, they will receive more fund from authority and got more sponsorship. Swimming and Athletics also will get more investment in terms of training conditions and equipment, foreign coaches and more international tournaments opportunities.

I think my prediction is quite accurate.:p Medals and golds number are both correct for Artistic Swimming, Basket 3*3, Canoeing Sprint, Fencing, Artistic Gymnastics, Trampoline, Rowing and Weightlifting. At least one of medals or golds number correct for Athletics, Badminton, Cycling Track, Diving, Karate and Table Tennis. • Archery - 2 vs. 0
  • Artistic Swimming - 2 vs. 2
  • Athletics - 8 (2 Gold) vs. 5 (2 Gold)
  • Badminton - 6 (1 Gold) vs. 6 (2 Gold)

  • Swimming Marathon - 1 vs. 0

  • Volleyball - 1 (1 Gold) vs. 0

  • Wrestling - 2 vs. 4

Total 89 vs. 88

Gold 36 vs. 38

It looks like that lost gold medal in trampoline that you said no one would remember after three weeks will indeed be remembered for the rest of our lives.

Hahaha. Indeed I almost forgot. If we have to find someone to blame, it will not be him or FIG. We know how FIG works, you can't have it all after receiving 4 golds from them. Look at Russia what happened to them after receiving 2 team golds. If we have to find someone to blame, no.1 should be Women's Volleyball, total unexpected boomed out. No.2 should be table tennis mixed double. You can only blame those sports fate on your own not by referees.

We lost the gold medal race 38-39 on the last day. A little bit sad but still quite excited when you engaged in this full process. It's an almost perfect OG for us with 38 golds and 88 medals with some breakthrough and some unexpected losses. But it's the beauty of sport and Olympics. Start to looking forward to Paris 2024 now.:cheer:

The race for table no.1 is still on. :CHN leads :USA by 5 golds but nothing is settled yet. Here is the gold medal chances and possibilities for each two nations listed and predicted by me:

:USA

  • Athletics Women's high jump 30%
  • Athletics Women's 4*400 relay 70%
  • Athletics Men's 4*400 relay 70%
  • Golf Women 70%
  • Basketball Men 60%
  • Waterpolo Women 60%
  • Baseball 40%
  • Wrestling Men's 97kg freestyle 30%
  • Basketball Women 90%
  • Volleyball Women 70%
  • Boxing Men's 91+kg 30%
  • Boxing Men's 63kg 30%

Total 31+6.5=37.5

:CHN

  • Canoeing WC2 60%
  • Diving Men's 10m 80%
  • Boxing Women's 69kg 30%
  • Karate Women's 61+kg 50%
  • Wrestling Women's 50kg 30%
  • Boxing Women's 75kg 40%

Total 36+2.9=38.9

So it's very close prediction number and it all depends on capability to realize the possibility. Very interesting for me to chase it.

Is :USA still on pace to win the medal table? Because it looks like to me that they have more gold medal chances coming up in the last few days than :CHN and the 5 gold difference isn't that large.

They have more gold medal chances than ours but very few are certain. It’s quite interesting for us to compete this in last few days.

I would imagine being the next host in just a few months has something to do with it as well (I'm living in Beijing, btw).

Sure, China and Japan agreed to support each other’s OG so China will support Japan’s decision and will not offend Japan on purpose during the game. And glad to meet our Canadian friend living the same city.

Apparently :TUR Eda Erdem Dündar (volleyball) is tested positive too.

Really? What I read from Chinese media is that she is close contact of positive personnel and under soft quarantine. She is still expected to play if tested negative 6 hours before the game.

Here comes the second round. South Korea hung a "Korean Peninsula shaped" tiger written "Tiger is coming down from the mountain". Again it angers Japanese especially far-right political groups who deny most war crime committed towards asian neighbors during WW2. Japan think it linked to some anti-Japanese historical allusion and included the disputed island on the painting in a symbolization way.
