  10. Some very encouraging performances in the rowing. The Swiss LWs are the real deal, but the two lads have been warned now and will know that they will have to find another gear to win gold. It occurred to me this morning that as things stand it's possible that both our Olympic gold medalists from Tokyo could end up losing their crowns to "Ireland" athletes in Paris (to Amy Broadhurst and Ahumada Ireland). Hopefully not though!
  11. Brazil is doing a very serious job in boxing since late 2000s at least, probably one of the best examples of PanAm Games and OG legacy for sport. And Cuba... well, they are having many issues with sports, not only boxing.
  12. I'm sorry, but Judo has one of the fairest system of all. What is unfair about it? Athletes from all around the world had 2 years to earn points in Open, Grand Prix, Grand Slam, continental, etc... She can still get the quota if she goes well in one of the Opens that will happen now. And I'm pretty sure she would get the continental quota in place of 100kg.
  13. To compete for the gold in the individual, we need to deploy the 3rd member as a domestique to break up the race on the bike (i.e. put Beaugrand into difficulty). To do this Coldwell is the best bet if she is content to play the team role for GTB and Beth.
  14. I completely missed this one off my radar....another potential gem in the US collegiate system. Add another sub 10 runner into the relay for the summer!
  15. Today
  16. I think Waugh has more in her locker than Coldwell, but she's not at peak form. Moreover, Coldwell is particularly good at supersprint relay; she might be a better 'sub' in that context than waugh right now. Hard to see past France, GBR fighting for silver in the relay.
  17. Who knows? I’m just the messenger.
  18. Strong results in the rowing semis in Lucerne, with women's Pair and women's double sculls winning their semis, mens pair and womens lightweight double making their finals. O'Donovan/McCarthy worryingly beaten by the Swiss, as I've suspected since the Swiss cake on the scene last year, the Irish lads will have a real fight on their hands to retain gold in Paris. Start of their season slightly disrupted by missing Europeans and World Cup I (O'Donovan competed in the heavyweight single) so hopefully they can find their inner Corkness and power on as the season goes on, a chance to turn the tables in the final tomorrow. At the boxing Olympic qualifier, wins for Sean Mari (51kg) on a split against 🇵🇰 and light-heavy Kelyn Cassidy against 🇩🇪, both progress to round of 32, still a long road to qualification and only 3 spots up for grabs in Cassidy's division. At the swimming trials, Shane Ryan hit the OCT for the 100m freestyle this morning, needs to find another 0.21 to get the Olympic Selection Tine. Danielle Hill first Irish woman under 25 seconds for 50m freestyle in 24.95, 0.25 off OST, hopefully one or both can hit those times later.
  19. Fascinating finale, in its own right and for Paris. Beaugrande finally wins an Olympic length race. Tertsch has a fantastic result, notwithstanding being one of the most awkward looking runners i've seen in a while - certainly has the power but no finesse, and looks like a clash/fall risk to anyone within 4 foot of her. Potter will be happy enough, had a lot less on the line than Beaugrande. Of the other Brits, Coldwell ran herself into near coma to keep out Waugh, Waugh may need to wait for LA now. GTB will be, I think, very happy with that comeback race - she's certainly close to where she needs to be than Duffy, though I never rule out the Bermudan, ever. Interesting that the winner of the last race, Pierrault, had an absolute mare. As the depth increases, perhaps its getting harder and harder to string races together.
  20. after leading Burnley to Relegation , Vincent Kompany will be new coach of Bayern Munchen
  21. So top 3 Brits in Cagliari Beth Potter Georgia Taylor Brown Sophie Coldwell Looks like Waugh & Rainsley will miss out on Paris.
  22. Despite successfully defending against his EPO positive this guy is sus af. Screenshot found on Peter Bol's phone contained doping information - report Won't be cheering for him in Paris.
  23. Final bike lap heading to the run, still the big group away, no changes. Leas group in the run 3x 2x 1x Flora Duffy struggling.
