  1. Some of my favorite episodes are in this thread.
  2. Alright, that is a proposal I did not see coming Just to clarify, is it men’s and women’s individual events + a mixed relay, or just a mixed relay?
  3. Well, that’s what I’m worried about. If someone has a “winter” crash on non-snow, I feel like the consequences should severe. I realize they do these events every summer, but if someone gets badly injured, that’s some seriously bad press for a young (and somewhat struggling) multi sports games.
  4. I never said they couldn’t appeal a suspension or ban. To be honest though, I’m more concerned about the health of athletes, than the career of a coach.
  5. @OlympicIRL You’re already a champion for throwing this all together. I think you more than deserve some time away from hosting duties.
  6. I have the time and I’d be willing to, but I have zero skills when it comes to formatting tables and posts on this forum. I could help run things, but I can’t be the one posting results.
  7. I didn’t set it up as a legal matter. I set it up in terms of an internal coaching matter. I would only make it a legal matter if the coach’s conduct was in violation of national laws.
  8. My choices for the program (as a non-Pole, non-European ). The only sports I’d be opposed to being on the program would Boxing and Weightlifting at the moment. I only omitted Ski Jumping (summer) because I felt there was the possibility of deadly injury. I really wanted to include eBike Trials, but I just ran out of space on the program.
  9. Africa is the real winner of this special event so far. I think we all saw Oceania’s defeat coming. I’ll have to go through and look at the language and genre statistics in a while.
  10. That entire process I outlined should easily take less than a month to complete ?
  11. Yes, I will concede as well that suspending the athletes from competition is unfair. I feel like the outline for dealing with abuse I laid out a page or two before could be applied well here. There should be a through investigation into the claims made by the athletes, during which the coach in question should be suspended for the team for the time being, and the gymnasts involved offered counseling. The Dutch NF should have meeting with all coaches to discuss what type of coaching practices are acceptable/ethical (even though it seems like the other coaches are fine). The Dutch NF should have a meeting with all the gymnasts to discuss their concerns, thoughts, questions on the issue at hand, and on coaching in general. Once the investigation is finished, everyone should be made aware of it’s findings. If it is found that the coach was abusive towards any athletes, then proper punishment should be given and legal action taken if necessary. If the investigation doesn’t find any wrongdoing, then the coach should be reinstated.
  12. I will say that Baku’s and Minsk’s logos are easily some of my favorite multi sports games logos.
  13. In fairness, the only difference is that slightly older, mostly poorer, teenage boys/girls are being abused.
  14. I’m going to have to join @thiago_simoes’s boycott if people are seriously going to try and justify athlete abuse. I’m sorry, but I have zero respect for anyone who believes it’s okay to abuse someone. It’s like @heywoodu said earlier there‘a a line that shouldn’t be crossed by coaches. There’s a difference between verbal abuse that aims to degrade an athlete, and actually critical feedback on a skill. There’s a definite difference between physical abuse that aims to punish an athlete, and physical training or instruction that aims to strengthen and teach an athlete.
  15. Except that it’s not acceptable there either. It’s hidden, allowed in practice, and wide spread for many of the same reasons though. The military demands perfection, and seeks good results; the same as gymnastics.
  16. @dcro and @heywoodu got married, but that’s a about it. You haven’t missed much I don’t think. The forum hasn’t been as active as it during “normal” times, though it seems like activity has picked up a little in the last week or two.
  17. I assumed that, but I wasn’t certain. Trials is cool. I don’t know if it belongs at the European Games though.
  18. Someone’s going to need to explain “electric trial” to me
  19. Because when you speak out against the coaches you get punished, or the abuse just gets covered up. Gymnastics is a sport that requires perfection and success. When athletes attempt to submit complaints about coaches, national federations see that as a threat to success. Plus, many of those who staff the national federations went through similar times as athletes and coaches, so they are numb to the issue.
