  1. Thank goodness little old NZ made the Winter Olympic table. Our two big freestyle skier and snowboarder being injured before the start, and a whole lot of 4ths had me worried we were going to be unlucky once again.
  2. I maybe biased because I'm from NZ and we haven't had much of a history in Amateur boxing but Nyika put on a clinic against Tischenko the reigning world and Olympic champ. Ha ha ha what a robbery. Even Lawrence Okolie commented as such. This wasn't the only robbery, Whittaker of Eng got robbed as well. What a corrupt sport.
  3. I think people are finally realizing what a huge negative economic impact the Olys have on the hosting city and country. It honestly should be restricted to a few cities every 4 years like 1 from each continent. There's just so many white elephant stadiums that are being built for the games and aren't even used again. Time for the IOC to get their head out of the sand.
  4. What is sad is that back in the bad old days in China under Mao's rule, paraplegic persons were either hidden away or disposed of. Probably just like many countries then and even now. It's rather ironic that they've salvaged a somewhat terrible Olympics from their able bodied athletes.
  5. If you take out Table Tennis and Badminton out of the Olys that's a whole lot of TV revenue for the IOC gone. You'd be a fool to take those sports out. It's common knowledge that TT in particular draws some of the biggest TV revenues. It's all about the dollar, not what country is dominating a particular sport, so it's a reason enough to be gone.
  6. So we end the Olympic campaign with 18 medals. 4G 9S 5B. 4 more than what the NZOC forecast. Most medals we have secured. 9 4ths and 40 all up in the top 8. Overall a success but we were down golds this Olympics from London. Rowing and Cycling Mens 7's underperformed. Whereas Sailing, Athletics, Canoeing over performed. A lot of surprise medals though. 8/10 for me.
  7. I'm glad Semenya won, stuff the haters good on her. Unwanted and disgusting attention been drawn to her. What a well deserved bronze for Willis. An athlete who speaks out against dopers in his sport. His twitter account is fecking great. Wahoo
  8. Eliza McCartney half Kiwi half Irish wins a very surprise bronze medal in the pole vault.
  9. I'm absolutely thrilled for Tom Walsh getting bronze in shot put. He deserves it with his consistent podium finishes, I couldn't bare him finishing 4th again like at WChs last year. Sad for Congolese guy but was kinda hoping one of the Americans were to bomb out. But that was never going to happen.
  10. An OK Olympics for us. Rowing and Cycling the obvious disappointments expected a lot more. On the other hand the Sailors have been the standouts. I can't really see many other medal opportunities apart from a bronze medal match for our Hockey Women. But can't see them winning since they have a history of choking. So we've surpassed our national committees target of 14 medals so far. 8 4ths and quite a lot of missed opportunities. Not many golds this time. Other than that some sports were a huge disappointment, some exceeded expectations.
  11. Ermahgerd. It's the Silver Olympics for NZ
  12. Being Kiwi I have tears in my eyes for Fiji. This means so much for them.
  13. Well that was depressing.
  14. That's a real shame. But yes sometimes these disasters are needed to have a brainstorm and rethink ideas. If they have a successful 2020, they can look back as a watershed moment.
  15. Love to know what's happened to German and Dutch swimming? Big powerhouses failing to deliver. Is it a generational thing? Also expected a lot more from 2nd best swimming nation in history Australia. Although not all is lost with them. As for GB, way too many 4ths you'd think.
  16. Well done Australia. Favourites to win it anyway and that held true. Gaaaaaaah I hope silver isn't going to be the new Gold for us.
  17. This is perhaps the best XC course I have seen. So glad it's not just a dressage test event like so many other previous Olympics. I want to see the rider and horse's ability in all 3 disciplines of the 3 day event and how they handle it.
  18. It's more bittersweet than anything. Lol.
  19. Aussie now lead the medal table. Congrats to them.
  20. Aussie Aussie Aussie Oi Oi Oi.
  21. Great to see my Aussie brethren laying it all on in the pool. As usual the biggest threats to the American dominance. AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE OI OI OI =)
  22. Comprising the sport of rowing for lovely scenery to take lovely photos. A bit of a joke really.
  23. Thanks to Kim qualifying only 3rd, it's going to stack up a quarter final race that's for sure.
  24. What the heck happened to Kim Brennan? Did she hit a crab or something?
  25. I think your Lightweight Women's Double Scull are more likely to medal than your eight. I don't know what's happened to the CAN W8 but they were a long way behind the US, GBR and NZ W8 this world cup season. They also got beaten by the Dutch 8 this season without the 3 crews mentioned in this race. They're obviously capable of medaling, the Olys particularly rowing throw up all sorts of upsets. But going on current form I wouldn't be surprised. But I think your best bet or even banker is the LW2x. Just went through it again, don't think Alan Campbell would medal in the single, I'd swap him for Damir Martin (CRO) to be on the podium.
