not the best morning for Italy... OK the 2 bronze medals in Kata (especially Busato's, with our guy consolidating his position in the world/Olympic ranking if compared with his main rivals for the last couple of spots in this discipline, Smorguner and Diaz), but really bitter loss by Crescenzo against the Kazakh no.2 in the men's -60kg Kumite (basically, 1 of the only 2 Kumite classes we have a chance to qualify through the ranking)...

so, in the men's 500m JPN (2), RUS, NED, KOR and CHN earned quota places in the women's 500m NED (2), JPN, RUS and KOR earned the available spots in the men's 1500m the quota places went to KOR, RUS (2), ITA, AUT & GER in the women's 1500m the spots were awarded to NED (2), POL, NOR & JPN p.s. the 6th spot in both women's disciplines will be reallocated, as NED had 3 girls among the top 6 in both races (but they couldn't get more than 2 spots)... and another thing to keep in mind, is that there's a limit of 3 skaters per NOC (per gender) to cover all the 3 events in the Lausanne 2020 schedule (500m, 1500m and Mass Start), therefore also 1 of the 4 NED women's spots would eventually be reallocated (the final decision of which they want to keep, I think it's up to the Dutch NOC)...

no, you're right... these champs and the 2019 junior world cup are the 2 qualifying events for the 2020 YOG... in particular, the NOCs represented among the top 6 of the single distance races over 500m and 1500m in these champs earn a quota place (and if there are more than 1 athlete of a Country among the top 6 of these races, their NOC earn an additional quota place)...

looking at her photos (and listening to her name), she definitely has Caribbean heritage... but...from the very few info available on the net, she does live in the Netherlands and she's been living there since many years (at least before she turned 7 years young), because she said she' been training in the Netherlands (Utrecht) with Juul Acton (who should be a quite famous Dutch coach) since that age... so, she might even have Caribbean genes, but technically she's definitely a "Dutch athletic school" product (if someone can talk of "products" for people and especially for people of that age)...

I don't know why those Argentinian races were held "only" over 15k... in the past, they were 3, if not 4, times the distance (of course following the rivers' stream, but still)... hopefully the next races will be over real marathon distance (if confirmed in the schedule, for sure Capri-Napoli can't be that short even if they want )...

Francesco Betti is currently 4th, but he has very good chances to climb up the ranking up to the Silver medal, since his PB over 5000m is around 24 seconds better than Loginov's (and the 2nd overall among today's starters). Chistiakov has a PB over 5000m just over 2 seconds slower than his teammate Loginov, therefore he should end up outside the medals. Based on PBs only, there's no chance for any other athlete to dream of a podium finish (maybe Gabriel Odor has a remote chance to reach the 4th place overall, but the medals look too far ahead).
