  6. Swedish SHL Frölunda HC are Swedish Champions! There's always a lot of pressure when you get to play the final series of a championship. And there's even more when you're at game #6 at your home, down 2-3 and with a packed stadium pushing your heart and your body to go beyond your actual skills. This must be the feeling that brought Daniel Brodin to begin the match more than "on fire", which led him to get a stupid penalty after only 8 seconds of play. Penalty that gave Frölunda the chance to open the score after less than 2 minutes, thanks to a goal scored by Samuel Fagemo. This goal put even more pressure on Djurgårdens' coach and players and led them to make some more mistakes. So, 5 minutes later the gust team doubled up their lead with their star, Ryan Lasch (who was also named Playoffs MVP, after the end of the game). The first period was really intense and full of action, with the home side having a desperate reaction which led them to shorten the distance just after the mid-point of the period, but Frölunda last night were on a mission and almost immediately restored the 2-goal margin thanks to a goal scored by Max Friberg. This was basically the turning point of the game: Djurgårdens couldn't match that anymore, their fans were taken out of the game and slowly but steadily Frölunda started to take the full control of the action. When the Norwegian Mats Rosseli Olsen scored the goal that gave the hosts a 4-1 lead after only 5 minutes of play into the second period, it was clear that it was all over, that Djurgårdens didn't have anything left in tank of both the physical and mental reserves. The final 35 minutes were just a long and anxious wait for Frölunda and their fans and a painful one for Djurgårdens and their fans. There was only a short moment when the home fans had the illusion that a miracle could still happen, after Emil Bemström scored the goal of the temporary 2-4, but it was just a question of a few minutes, before Rosseli Olsen netted his second goal of the night and definitively sealed the deal for the troop from Göteborg. It's the 5th Swedish title for Frölunda. Final Score of game #6: Djurgårdens IF, 2 vs Frölunda HC, 6 (1-3, 0-1, 1-2) Final Series Recap Frölunda HC b. Djurgårdens IF 4-2 (5-3; 1-5; 5-2; 2-3; 6-2; 6-2) game #6 highlights https://www.shl.se/play/video/51558120
  7. Finnish Liiga, Finals: "refuse to lose"...HPK Hämeenlinna did religiously followed this motto...and therefore yesterday Kärpät Oulu didn't have any chance to enjoy the title... HPK won a very tense and heavily conditioned by tactics and fear (actually, quite boring, too) game #6 of the Liiga Final Series on the home ice by a score of 1-0 (thanks to a goal scored by Valtteri Puustinen in the 29th minute of play)... and because of that, now the series is tied 3-3 and it's all down to the decisive game #7, where anything can really happen... it's a real shame that it's almost impossible to follow that game in reasonably good conditions outside Finland... the Championship Game is scheduled for Tomorrow, May 4th in Oulu @ 5 p.m. local time, 4 p.m. CET game #6 highlights
  8. I agree...it's a brilliant use of space, but still I hate (watching) outdoor swimming competitions and I'd rather try a different distribution of the proposed venues...
  9. the choice is there...the problem is that's not so easy to find a perfectly fit river for Slalom Canoeing within the urban area of Metropoles hosting the OG... Rome, for instance, before withdrawing from the 2020 bid, had a natural river (in Fiano romano) as site for the slalom canoeing...but things went in a different way... Sepulveda Basin Sport Complex https://la.curbed.com/maps/olympics-map-los-angeles-2028-games-locations p.s. I already hate with all of my heart the choice of USC's Dedeaux Field transformed in a temporary Swimming pool (outdoor)... and I'm sure that IOC gave up on an already exixting rule on that, since, after Athens 2004, they said that swimming would be never hosted outdoor anymore...
  10. first, she's still eligible for her "regular" races for a while (she's on the startlist in tomorrow's Doha DL meet, for instance), because she has 30 days (from yesterday) to appeal CAS' decision in a Swiss Civil Court...and until this procedure is over (in both ways, should she appeal or not), nothing's gonna change... then, if she doesn't appeal CAS' decision, she's still able to compete over her "regular" races if she takes the hormones regulators, which should lower her testosterone rate down to a "normal woman's level" (and she has to do it regularly for the 6 months preceding every race between 400m and 1500m/mile she wants to enter)... meanwhile, if she doesn't want to undergo that therapy (whose long terms effect are still controversial...some studies suggest that could lead to cancer if it's used for a very long period, but those same studies are not accepted by the entire medical community since thay haven't been conducted for a significant period yet, therefore it's too early to make any sort of "definitive statement" on the argument), she can still enter the other events of the athletics program... in any case, there's no ban (as a convicted doper) at all for her... she's only considered a sick woman, who need to be treated for her "disease"... p.s. it looks that she rather go up to the longer distances...I read just yesterday that last (South African) summer she had her first race over 5000m...and without a proper training for that distance, she beat the reigning South African Champion by more than 100m (the full final straight), even if the race was quite slow in overall terms...
  11. I can feel it...by tomorrow, Italy would be under a few meters of snow... what's gonna happen tomorrow, in fact, goes well beyond the definition of "exceptional"... for the first time since 1999 (when Italy hosted the top tier men's European Championships), a Field Hockey match is going to be broadcasted live in its entirety by our National TV*... this unbelievable miracle will happen tomorrow at 11.45 a.m. CET on the sport channel of our public TV, Raisport+ HD, and concerns the game between Italy and Canada, the semifinal of the FIH Hockey Series from Malaysia, which, in case of success, is also the only Italian chance to earn a spot for the Olympic Qualification playoffs... *apart from that, the only Field Hockey pictures seen on our TV in the last 20 years are some short summaries of our National Championship (aired with at least 4/5 days delay...and completely disappeared in the last few years) or some short summaries and/or live look-in during the Olympic Games, but we've never had more than 15/20 consecutive minutes of Field Hockey on TV...
  12. there's more than that... CAS decisions are subject to the Swiss Civil Court...if someone appeals a CAS decision in front of the SCC, then the consequential ruling must be ratified in the entire world, not only Switzerland... p.s. the Court for Human Rights can judge all they want, but it's not officially recognized by most Countries in the World (USA included), therefore their pronounciations can't overrule CAS decisions (it's the same for the International Justice Court, which can't judge citizens of Nations not officially supporting it...or, better they can judge them, but their ruling has absolutely no effect on their lives)...
  13. yes, if not eligible teams get 1st or 2nd in their tournament, the spot is reallocated through the world ranking... https://www.fihseriesfinals.com/aboutfihseries directly from FIH website: " **if Japan, Scotland or Wales finish in the top 2 of their respective pools, they will not secure a place in the Olympic qualifiers. Japan have already qualified as both host and winners of the Asian Games; for Scotland and Wales, the reason is that England are the nominated country for Great Britain’s qualification pathway. If any of these three teams do finish in the top 2, the team that finishes third does NOT automatically qualify for the Olympic qualifiers. Any such additional place is determined by the FIH World Rankings as at the completion of the continental championships (8 September 2019)"
  14. https://www.bbc.com/sport/athletics/48102479 finally, some good decisions for the sport... but I fear that an appeal to ordinary civil court will change that once again... I can smell "discrimination" all around if you look at the question from a not sport-only related point of view... p.s. and the IAAF rule that involves only 400m through 1500m/mile races just sucks...females with male characteristics have a big advantage over any kind of physical activity, therefore they should immediately extend their rules to entire athletics program (and the IOC should embrace that for any sport under any circumstance)...
  15. here we go again... Doping fight: WADA gathers 2,200 samples from Russian lab Full news: https://www.apnews.com/1da73ceb991b4a6abe083e9464e6b457
  16. question from someone who normally only watches world champs and Olympic competitions (and very few others, just occasionally)... what should we expect from him? Is he famous for good course designing or is he more on the controversial side of the job?
  17. yes, when it's possible (actually, more than live, I watch them delayed, so I can cut all the pauses off and save some time)... apart from the NHL (I can watch all of their games on NHL.tv), I normally watch KHL, Swiss NLA, Czech and Slovak Extraliga(s) quite regularly because I can reach the TV channels broadcasting most of their matches... EBEL and DEL only for those games broadcasted on free TV/streaming (mainly/almost only during the playoffs) and SHL unfortunately only for saturday's playoffs games on TV4 Sweden (and only if KodiMod's IPTV list works, which isn't always the case)... anything else, it's only about watching highlights and reading newspapers/websites articles about it (trying to gather the most details -stats, fun facts and things like that- I can)... p.s. the Finnish Liiga is the most difficult one to follow...and not only because of their language...they only post very short highlights of very few matches on Youtube...live matches are basically impossible to find in reasonable picture quality outside Finland and even the regular highlights on the official website are heavily geo-blocked (I mean, you need a really good VPN to watch them, things like Hola and other free stuff don't work with Liiga's website)...
  18. Swedish SHL, Finals: playing on the road seems to be a hurdle that just can't be overcome...in game #5 of the SHL Finals, in fact, once again it was the home side to dominate and win the match... Frölunda scored the opening goal after 10 minutes and then they didn't look back anymore, by the 30th minute the score was 4-0 for them, leaving Djurgårdens without any chance to even think about a possible comeback... the second half of the game was just cosmetic...it only helped some players to improve their personal stats... final score: Frölunda HC, 6 b. Djurgårdens IF, 2 thanks to this result, now Frölunda lead the series 3-2 and have 2 consecutive chances to clinch the title (the possible game #7 at home included)... game #5 highlights https://www.shl.se/play/video/51426646
  19. in Italy, we say that right now in Boston everybody is "touchin' iron" (or "something else"..."sgrat, sgrat"...you know what I mean)...
  20. Finnish Liiga, Finals: Kärpät Oulu is now going for another back-to-back (their special feature, as they previously won the Liiga in consecutive years 3 times, 2004 and 2005; 2007 and 2008; 2014 and 2015)... yesterday they won game #5 of the Liiga Final Series against HPK Hämeenlinna by a score of 2-0... thanks to that, now they lead the series 3-2 and next Thursday they have the first possible title clinching game (on the road, meanwhile the possible 7th and decisive game would be at home for them)... game #6 is scheduled for Thursday, May 2nd in Hämeenlinna @ 6.30 p.m. local time, 5.30 p.m. CET game #5 highlights
  21. if they didn't change the rules lately, it's England the only British team entitled to earn a spot and then, in case, play the Olympic Tournament... I'm sure at 101% that until Rio it was that way...meanwhile I'm not sure at all that this rule is still there...
  22. Czech Extraliga HC Ocelàři Třinec are the Champions! Finally, the team from Moravia turned the RS result around and won the Czech title for the second time after 2011. It's been a very tight 6-game battle...and game #6 was played with more or less the same storyline of the previous ones... every time a team could earn the advantage, the opponents were quickly capable of sending their answer, until something unexpected broke the still situation... yesterday, it was Liberec the first team to try and get the advantage in the opening period...but their lead didn't last for long, just as it happened to Třinec in the second period... and when it looked that the game was heading to OT for the 3rd time in a row, at minute 56.03, Třinec's Vladimir Roth suddenly find a goal out of nowhere... It proved to be the Title Winning Goal, but the party actually started only 2 minutes later, when Ethan Werek scored the empty netter that definitively made it clear that Liberec were done and dusted... the final score of game #6 is: Třinec, 4 b. Liberec, 2 and the final score of the entire series is also 4-2 in favor of Třinec. Finals Recap HC Ocelàři Třinec b. Bílí Tygři Liberec 4-2 (2-1; 1-3; 4-1; 1-2OT; 3-2OT; 4-2) game #6 highlights (it won't work if you have any sort of adblocker installed) https://www.hokej.cz/tv/hokejka/video/20190629?t=hyhbydjybjac9hpby5q0j5smfuni4bivxh9qz97vbbnitvsj1vnrgai
  23. the most important tradition of them all...ius primae noctis* and of course I'm the Lord benefiting of that (but only in case of young and beautiful women)... *those who wrote wiki's article are just a bunch of jerks! it's "ius", with the normal "i", since it's a Latin expression and in the Latin alphabet the "j" doesn't even exists!
  24. in quite difficult climatic conditions (very hot and humid...and they were outdoor, just to complicate things), surprising success for Cornu among the men, meanwhile Janja's streak of wins continues...will she be able to complete the perfect season?
