  3. sure, but when you lose the quarterfinal match like Curatoli did, also in such case, you've never been even close to get on the podium... ok, it's just one step further, but if that step is 249 meters long ...
  4. Swedish SHL, Finals: this time it was a closer match, but still the home side came out with the win once again, despite Frölunda HC took a 2-0 lead after 31 minutes of play... the Globe Arena was not available, therefore yesterday's action happened in a packed Hovet...but surely it wasn't a disadvantage for the home team, which was pushed their always enthusist fans to a great comeback between the end of the second period and the 3rd one... and Djurgårdens IF finally won game #4 of the SHL final series by a score of 3-2 (game winner scored by Niclas Bergfors at the 49th minute), which means that now the series is tied 2-2... game #5 is scheduled for next Tuesday, April 30th in Göteborg @ 7.30 p.m. CET game #4 highlights https://www.shl.se/play/video/51203942 Finnish Liiga, Finals: Kärpät's game #3 home loss was just a distraction...yesterday in game #4 they went back to business as mad as never before and quickly restored the home ice advantage in the Liiga Final Series, by travelling to Hämeenlinna and beating HPK on the road by a score of 4-2 ... now the series is tied 2-2... game #5 is scheduled for Tomorrow, April 29th in Oulu @ 6.30 p.m. local time, 5.30 p.m. CET game #4 highlights and here you can find also the previous games' highlights game #1 game #2 game #3

  6. "guess what? I'd better come out of retirement...maybe I'm not that old and I'm so bored by doing nothing all day long to enjoy after-fencing life"... this might be what Kim Jung Hwan thought when he read about the Sabre Grand Prix coming to "his" Korea... and well, after a few months of doing nothing (in fencing terms, of course), he's still quite good, as he got on the podium in the first competition since last year's world champs... meanwhile, the Italians had another day at the office...which means that they weren't even close to get on the podium...

  9. I've been in Venice only twice in my life and it was quite a while ago (and both times for a very short trip, once it was just an afternoon to see the famous "fly of the 'Colombina' for Carnival), so, unfortunately I don't have any pareticular tip... but I can enforce what @Sindo wrote earlier...pay attention to the many cheaters in bars and restaurants...always ask for the bill and possibly ask in advance how much you're going to pay for this and that...sometimes also the cards with the official price exposed on the shelves are illusory (once because it's the happy hour, once because there's a special offer...there's always something changing the official price list...and not everybody's going to show that in an explicit way -it's illegal, they should always mark the exact price, but especially in the main touristic locations it rarely happens)...
  10. and the first 2 Gold Medals went to...guess who? yessss, you're right! China is the correct answer... Liu Shiwen is the new star of women's Table Tennis...after winning the Mixed Doubles tournament with her partner Xu Xin, she doubled up her Gold Medal collection by winning the most prestigious title, the (women's) Singles by beating her teammate Chen Meng in the final match (4-2 the score)... meanwhile, Ma Long won the men's Doubles tournament (with his partner Wang Chuqin) by beating the "strange" Spanish/Romanian pair formed by Alvaro Robles and Ovidiu Ionescu (4-1 the score) in the final match and now he is also once again in the men's Singles Gold Medal match, waiting for the winner of the second semifinal (still running, 2 sets apiece while writing) between An Jae Hyun and Matthias Falck... the women's Doubles Gold Medal match is still to be played (between CHN and JPN)...

  14. German DEL Adler Mannheim back on the throne The Regular Season winners, completed their triumphant campaign also in the DEL playoffs. Game #5 of the final series against the TRed Bull Munich, looked exactly like the other 3 already won by Mannheim, with the home team starting like a train and managing to earn a 4-1 lead just after passed the 30th minute. But this time, the hosts at least did show some pride and tried to comeback. And they did it when Yasin Ehliz scored the 4-4 tying goal in the 48th minute. After that, both teams had also some more scoring chances, but anothing else changed. So, the match went to OT, where Mannheim goalie Dennis Endras saved his side more than once, until Thomas Larkin score the Championship Winning Goal in the 74th minute. Then, the party started...Munich had to surrender the crown after 3 consecutive titles and Mannheim could enjoy their 7th DEL success in 25 years of the "modern era" of German Ice Hockey. Game #5 score: Adler Mannheim, 5 b. Red Bull Munich, 4 (OT) Game #5 highlights: https://www.sport1.de/tv-video/video/adler-mannheim-ehc-muenchen-5-4-highlights-del-playoffs-finale-spiel-5__8AgGUGPJ_B0UPqGJ_31uIIYzzibevgS9
  15. Czech Extraliga, Finals: game #5 of the Extraliga Finals ad it all...goals, comebacks, drama, controversy, poor refereeing and even a short blackout in the arena... it started at a slow pace, like many other games of this final series, but soon things turned around and the fireworks exploded... the home team took the lead after only 4 minutes and seemed to have the control of the game, but at the beginning of the middle stint, Třinec somehow found the net and tied the match, 1-1. The contest was always tight and a minute or so before the end of the same 2nd period, Liberec got the advantage once again, thanks to a 4-on-3 power play in a very nervous phase of the game, with the penalty benches quite crowded after some argument was discussed between the entire rosters of the 2 teams. In the final period, the guests had to increase the pace and they did it, finding the tying goal 7 minutes before the end of regulation. Then things got quiet for a while and the inevitable consequence was that the game went to OT. Here both teams looked a lot more afraid of givin'up chances to the opponents rather than building anything by themselves (wait a minute! did I already write something like that before? sure, I did! by the way, it's quite a classic behaviour in such kind of OT, not great news for sure)... But after 8:46 of the 1st OT, Martin Ruzicka put some magic out of his hat and, all by himself, unassisted, scored the game-winner for Třinec (it was only the second shot on goal of the entire OT between both teams)... final score of game #5: Liberec, 2 vs Třinec, 3 (OT), which means that Třinec lead the series 3-2 and could clinch the title at home on Sunday... game #6 is scheduled for Tomorrow, April 27th in Třinec @ 5.20 p.m. CET
  16. the Olympic Qualification Period has officially started... but the Italian results haven't changed at all...we have absolutely no girls capable of going beyond the round of 16 in the individual competitions... and the "Errigo-gate" is just getting hotter...
  17. Women's Individual Sabre (Seoul, KOR) Final Results Gold: Olga Kharlan Silver: Kim Ji Yeon Bronze: Manon Brunet & Seo Ji Yeon Semifinals: Kharlan b. Brunet 15-12 Kim b. 18. 2019 World Cup, Stage #4 (Beijing, CHN) Men's 10m Air Pistol Gold: Abhishek Verma Silver: Artem Chernousov Bronze: Han Seung Woo Olympic Quota: India, Mongolia
  19. no, but I remember a North Korean shooter (Kim Hyon Ung) starting in 3 different pistol events in Athens 2004 (10m air, 50m free and 25m rapid fire)... and many rifle specialists competing in all 3 disciplines (the last one, Niccolò Campriani, who made the final in all 3 rifle competitions both in London and Rio, both times winning medals in 2 of the 3 events)...
  20. so far we have... Chinese clean sweep in the women's singles (but we're also going to have a new world champion, at least)... 1 all Chinese and 1 all Japanese semifinals (which means that we're going to have a CHN vs JPN final) in the women's doubles... 1 all Chinese and 1 Europe (FRA or SWE) vs KOR semifinals in the men's singles... 1 all Chinese and 1 all European (POR vs a composite ESP&ROU pair) semifinals in the men's doubles... and a CHN vs JPN final in the mixed doubles (with the bronze medals gone to another CHN and to a GER pairs)... this means that CHN are still on course for a clean sweep of the world titles, that Europe will end up winning 4 medals overall (2 in Olympic disciplines from 2 different Nations, GER and FRA or SWE) and that Asia will win in the end 16 medals (1x KOR, 3x JPN and 12x CHN)...
  21. 2019 Sport Climbing World Cup, Stage #3 (Chongqing, CHN) women's Speed Gold: Song Yi Ling* Silver: Aleksandra Rudzinska Bronze: Iuliia Kaplina men's Speed Gold: Alfian Muhammad Silver: Kostiantyn Pavlenko Bronze: Sergey Rukin * = second win in a row for the Chinese girl...and in the quarterfinal round, she also set a new World Record with 7.101 seconds
  22. Austrian EBEL KAC clinched the Karl Nedwed Trophy EC-KAC won game #6 of the final series against the Vienna Capitals 3-2 (after Overtime) at home on Wednesday and clinched the Karl Nedwed Trophy. EC-KAC has been the more dangerous team in the first minutes of the match and has threatened with shots from Hundertpfund, Wahl (twice), Kozek and Comrie. But the Capitals managed to score the first goal: De Sousa finished a fast attack after a great diagonal pass from Schneider from near the left post in the 11th minute. The guests got a boost and controlled the game then until the end of 1st period. The Red Jackets had a perfect start into the 2nd stint: Hundertpfund earned the puck behind the net, passed it to Petersen, whose diagnonal-pass was finished by Harand under the crossbar after just 55 seconds: game tied, 1-1. The guests stayed unimpressed and answered quickly...after a shot from the blue line from Fischer, Rotter potted the 2-1 from the rebound after 26 minutes of play. The Capitals took two straight penaltys then, but, Lamoureux and Co. defended their close lead. And afterwards, De Sousa, Schneider and Olden (shorthanded, 39th minute) had three great chances for the 3-1, but all were stopped by Klagenfurt’s goalie Haugen. Out of nowhere, Petersen took a shot from the circle and beat goalie Lamoureux to tied the game once again after 53 minutes of play, 2-2. Romig (Capitals) and especially Harand (Klagenfurt...he hit the post just in the last minute of regulation) had the chance to decide the game late, but the fate was not with them. Therefore, the game went to Overtime, when Adam Comrie, after 75 minutes of tough battle, scored the Championship Winning Goal and put the word "END" on the Austrian domestic season. It's the 31st Title for KAC Klagenfurt (Austrian record). Nice stats: the entire EBEL season had a record breaking attendance of more than 1.1 million spectators on the stands (in 353 total games) and the Finals recorded 34.400 total spectators (6 matches), which is also the new record for the main Austrian League.
  23. German DEL, Finals: it really looks that Red Bull Munich have give up fighting...game #4 was just another one-team show...and that team is Adler Mannheim ...in fact, also last night they won easily, by a score of 4-0... and so Mannheim lead the series 3-1 and now they have 3 consecutive "match points", 2 of them on home ice... game #5, the first possible title clincher, is scheduled for Today, April 26th in Mannheim @ 7.15 p.m. CET game #4 stats & highlights (it looks that at the moment the video doesn't work, hopefully they're gonna fix it as soon as possible)... https://www.del.org/video/ehc-red-bull-muenchen-adler-mannheim/10309 Swedish SHL, Finals: this time the home team came out in the middle and latter stages of the game, but still, the home ice advantage played a major role in the SHL Finals... Frölunda HC, in fact, got back to success, beating Djurgårdens IF by a score of 5-2 in game #3 in front of another sellout crowd at the Scandinavium and now they lead the series 2-1... game #4 is scheduled for Tomorrow, April 27th in Stockholm @ 3.15 p.m. CET game #3 highlights https://www.shl.se/play/video/51044600 Finnish Liiga, Finals: finally, in Finland the home ice advantage was broken...and it was HPK Hämeenlinna to find the way of doing it...they surprisingly won game #3 against Kärpät Oulu on the road by a score of 3-0 and now they lead the series 2-1... game #4 is scheduled for Tomorrow, April 27th in Hämeenlinna @ 5 p.m. local time, 4 p.m. CET
