Because some advanced countries are not fond of sending "tourists" (a nice Balkan term ) to big events. They have enough sporting success, that bringing people only for participation is not worth it in their eyes. They could spare on finances, organization, logistics etc. For smaller countries this seems like a no brainer, as their athletes are usually far in between, so any additional name is good for some interest. Though i've read many comments in BG in the last decade about "why are we sending tourists to these events, if they are going to finish 5 from to bottom. Just so they can have a paid excursion". For me, if you have fulfilled the IOC's standards, then you should go, but i can see, why some countries don't want to fully accept this approach.

На хартия трябва да вземем 2 медала от гимнастиката и 2-3 потенциално от бокса, но пак си зависи от жребий, съдийство и прочие. Тази Иранка в таекуондото, Ализадех, също е много добра, би трябвало да се справи добре. Вече доколко радостен може да бъде нейн медал, спрямо такъв от истински Българин си е дебатно. На мен лично никога не ми е допадало такова натурализиране, ама едно на ръка, че повечето държави го правят, а и просто материала ни е зле. Като няма кой друг.

I've seen, read and heard enough stories of amazing athletes, that were just sporting wonders. Just like in every generation. It's getting tiresome hearing how "athletes from the 20th century are all enhanced". There are hundreds of new stuff, that current athletes do to evolve and improve their performance, that weren't being done in the past. Also, it was just a reference, as sports history is rarely being brought up nowadays. Doesn't take away, that Karlos is amazing and a generational talent.

You do know, that the Governing Bodies are not very keen on "fair competition" or "player health" . More teams = More matches = More money. Is there anything in sports after the 70s, that has went back and reduced the number of competitors The tendency is to only increase. Plus all of these countries are happy with the bigger formats, because it will be easier for them to qualify and participate in the big event. If you ask them, I'm sure they would want a Euro with 32 teams, no matter what the quality would be.
