  1. China had 3 pairs in top 8 in WD. BWF assumed that China would chose top 2 pairs resulting in Zhao Yunlei being selected in two events, which would create an additional quota in WS, which was allocated to Lithuania. This quota was always conditional as can be seen by the official BWF document quoted below: China had to confirm that it will use two quotas in WD by May 31 and announce its team by 18 July. China never said that it will select Zhao/Tian. China didn't make any change. Though sad for Lithuanian player, she must have been prepared for this. And blaming China (or BWF) for this is simply wrong.
  2. Couple of nice reads about our Rio stars: Yogi Dutt: http://indianexpress.com/article/sports/rio-2016-olympics/yogeshwar-dutt-wrestling-wrestler-patriot-philosopher-pehelwan-2920277/ Mirabai Chanu: http://indianexpress.com/article/sports/rio-2016-olympics/mirabai-chanu-sleepless-in-patiala-2916910/ Manu Attri/Sumeeth Reddy: http://indianexpress.com/article/sports/rio-2016-olympics/the-goodfathers-sumeeth-reddy-manu-attri-2918738/
  3. Relay squads: 4x400m Men: Anas, Arokia, Dharun, Kunhumohammed, Mohan Kr. Sumit Kumar; 4x400m Women: Nirmala, Poovamma, Anilda, Jisna, Debashree, Ashwini.
  4. Nice concept but not sure how successful it would be considering the huge time difference
  5. Thanks for the kind words. All the qualification documents are easily available. I don't know why federations and journalists don't take the effort to read 2-4 pages of document and avoid such fiascos. We already saw how media and Boxing federation created a hype about Wild Card for Mary Kom. And now AFI, one of the better run federations, led by a former Olympian.
  6. Already doing. Majority of the info that I have posted here regarding Indian Grand Prix 3 & 4 was from his handle only.
  7. IAAF has released the Olympic rankings. We have now officially qualified relay teams in both 4x400 disciplines. Strangely the list is not showing Anas in 400m individual race. Rest all are there. Does anybody know the reason behind his exclusion from the list?
  8. Can you please share the link to the release. I think Nirmala and Anas have to be included in relay teams. We can exclude Tintu from relay team at present and then substitute her for one of the other athletes at the time of races but don't see any logic behind doing so (except increasing strength of the squad by 1).
  9. Even I have mixed feeling about it. Most likely, HI decided to unburden Sardar from captaincy to allow him more freedom and gave captaincy to long time VC, Sreejesh. I doubt they gave any importance to this incident. Honestly, I think if in Olympics, communication between players and referees would be better and such a situation would not arise.
  10. Indian Men's Team Goalkeeper: PR Sreejesh (C) Defender: Harmanpreet Singh, Rupinder Pal Singh, Kothajit Singh, Surendar Kumar, VR Raghunath Midfielder: Sardar Singh, Manpreet Singh, SK Utthapa, Danish Mujtaba, Devindar Walmiki, Chinglensana Singh Forward: SV Sunil (VC), Ramandeep Singh, Akashdeep Singh, Nikkin Thimmaiya Reserve: Vikas Dahiya, Pardeep Mor
  11. Indian Women's Team Goalkeeper: Savita Defender: Sushila Chanu (C), Deepika Thakur (VC), Namita Toppo, Sunita Lakra, Deep Grace Ekka Midfielder: Navjot Kaur, Monika, Renuka Yadav, Lilima Minz, Forward: Anuradha Devi, Poonam Rani, Vandana Kataria, Rani Rampal, Preeti Dubey, Nikki Pradhan Reserve: Rajani Etimarpu, H. Lalruat Feli
  12. Athletics quotas: 20km M Race Walk: 3 50km M Race Walk: 2 (could be 0 as both Manish and Sandeep have met standard in 20m as well and so technically, AFI can send them to compete in 2 events) 20km W Race Walk: 2 Men's Marathon: 3 (think they would all compete unlike Women's marathon) Women's Marathon: 2 (Kavita Raut, OP Jaisha) (Lalita has clarified she wont participate and I wont be surprised if Sudha also gives Marathon a miss) 3000m Steeplechase W: 2 (Sudha Singh, Lalita Babar) Dutee, Srabani, Nirmala, Tintu in Women Track Manpreet and Seema in Women Field Dharambir, Anas and Jinson in Men Track Vikas, Inderjeet, Ankit and Renjith in Men Field Total: 27 (assuming Manish and Sandeep are not selected for 20km and all marathon runners participate) For Relay, we get 6 quotas per team (minus those who qualified in individual events), so with 2 relay teams, 4x400m and 4x400w and 3 individual quotas (Anas, Nirmala and Tintu) we should get additional 9 spots. So, total is not 33 or 34 but 36. Which puts us at 120 total.
  13. Dharambir Singh has also qualified for Rio with timing of 20.45s in 200m.
  14. Renjith Maheshwary has qualified for Rio with a massive jump of 17.30 (yet another New NR). Only Claye and Taylor have jumped more than that in 2016
  15. If disqualified wrestlers are getting back their quotas, does that mean that the nations who got reallocated quotas are losing them? It is really unprofessional of UWW. They should have finished dope tests before disqualification and reallocations.
  16. He lost to German 0-3. All three judges gave German all three rounds.
  17. Maybe I am wrong. But given the past experience, I wont be surprised if SFI and/or Hindu is wrong.
  18. Shivani participated in Kazan Championships in 50m and 100m Freestyle events only. So, I think, she can get Universality quota in one of those events only. It would be best if we wait for FINA confirmation.
  19. Yes. Shivani Kataria participated at Kazan in 50m and 100m Freestyle and hence is eligible for Universality place. There is nothing in the Qualification document stating that swimmers with OST ranking are ineligible for Universality quota. Also, the more I think about it the more I think FINA just accepts/rejects the application from NSF. It is NSF, who has to decide which swimmer to chose for Universality quota. But, I am not sure. No idea.
  20. Regarding Swimming Qualification, below is the summary of the qualification procedure, as understood by me. All swimmers with OQT are eligible to compete in Olympics as long as NOC limit per event is followed. After this FINA adds relay only swimmers (swimmers who are part of relay team as declared by NOCs and not part of any individual event). Next FINA keeps aside quotas for Universality places. Then FINA would start inviting swimmers from OST pool. This will be done based on rankings in individual events and not overall rankings, meaning that all first ranked eligible OST swimmers in each event would be selected first, then second and so on till total quota of 900 is reached. After this, FINA gives Universality quotas to nations with no qualified swimmer (max 1 swimmer per gender). FINA only guarantees that all nations with a swimmer at Kazan Championships will be represented at Rio. It does not guarantee that such nations will have swimmers of both genders at Olympics. Any swimmer who participated at World Championships is eligible for Universality quota. S/he does not need to reach OST to be selected. No Indian has reached OQT. I don't think any Indian is high enough in ranking to get invited on basis of OST timing. So, only chance of qualification is Universality quotas. Now, as stated above, we are guaranteed to have one swimmer. Most likely it would be male swimmer (higher ranking). Whether we have a female swimmer or not will be known only when FINA declares the universality quota. Regarding the male swimmer, there is some confusion over how male swimmer would be chosen. For London Olympics, Gagan Ullalmath was chosen in 1500m Freestyle, without him having achieved OST, ahead of couple of swimmers who had achieved OST. I am not sure whether FINA made that decision or Swimming Federation of India bungled up. So, we can't be sure about who will represent India till 5th July.
  21. I think it would be better if we posted our teams here on the forum instead of in the spreadsheet. Just while posting my team was deleted twice, most likely by mistake by someone. But, nevertheless it could be problematic. We can have that spreadsheet till 30 and then all of us have to make final prediction on the forum
  22. In 52 kg, it is 6 boxers 3 quotas. Hopefully Gaurav will the one bout and qualify for Rio.
