  1. Didnt watch today's matches or the men's team qualifiers, so don't know for certain but I think it could be also be a case of archers taking too much time for first 5 shots and hence the last archer rushing the shot resulting in low score.
  2. Excellent performance by the team so close to Olympics. Lot of positives from the tournament, namely Fitness levels (Competing with Aus twice in two days), Confidence, Momentum and Harmanpreet Singh
  3. India doesnt beat GB often, in fact if I remember when we defeated them last year, it was after a gap of 15+ years
  4. No, you gave judge wise score line only.
  5. Each judge gives a score to each round: 10-9 being the default, 10-8 or even 10-7 only in case of too much domination and/or knockouts/warning. At the end of three rounds, each judge's scores are added up. The boxer with more judges giving him victory wins the bout. Whether a judge gives you 30-24 or 29-28 it doesnt matter. So, in this case Manoj Kumar won 2-1 as two judges thought he was the better boxer while one judge thought otherwise.
  6. Great Britain scored 2 goals in dying moments to draw their match against Belgium. This sent Indian team into the finals against Australia. This is our first ever final appearance in Champions Trophy. Also, this is our fourth major medal in 2 years. CWG Silver, Asian Games Gold, HWL Bronze and now Champions Trophy. Plus Silver and Bronze at Azlan Shah.
  7. Are you suggesting that he was shooting badly on purpose? Match-fixing?
  8. If you recall, someone had quoted team official and told about India's decision to replace Rahul with Mangal on Monday evening itself. Also, Mangal had participated in the normal team event as well. So, once again nothing to do with today's condition. In qualification, gap between Mangal and Rahul was 5 shots and Mangal had shot much better in 2nd series compared to 1st. So, maybe team thought that Mangal will bounce back. Also, its not like Rahul had a spectacular performance in qualification or Individual events.
  9. Champia won the individual quota, so thinking might have been 1) no controversy if team won quota 2) Champia just had a bad day in qualifiers and would bounce back in team event
  10. Seems you are right. Lets wait and see.
  11. I am still not sure about that. Maybe that guy is misinformed. Because if we chose Mangal instead of Rahul, our team score should be reduced by 5 which would leave us tied with Mexico for first place and would result in tie break shoot out. Considering that top half is much easier compared to bottom half, IMO it is not a risk worth taking. As for team for Olympics is concerned, lets wait for the team to win quota first and then we (including AAI) can discuss that.
  12. WS has a very strong field this time around. There is no clear favourite. In the last year or so, Marin, Okuhara, Intanon all have had excellent runs. Saina and Chinese have been consistently been near the top throughout the Olympic cycle. So, I consider these six as group 1A. Ideally, medals should come from this group only but Koreans, Tai Tzu, Yamaguchi and Sindhu (group 1) are more than capable of multiple upsets and winning a medal. So, with so many top players, more than seeding, draw is important to avoid unfavourable matchups (like Saina vs Tai Tzu)
  13. So, whats the issue let Bopanna partner anyone and the legend can get there with some other person.
  14. This mediocre player is not blocking anyone's road to Olympics but legend is dependent on the mediocre player to reach Olympics. If you remember, the legend created such a big fuss at last Olympic demanding to be paired with the same mediocre player. Also, Leander is not performing at the same level as Bopanna on circuit. If that was the case, Leander would not have been 30 places behind Bopanna. Leander has to share the blame for the way Indian tennis is divided in camps. Paes and Bhupathi are tremendous players who have always played better representing India (compared to ATP circuit) but their ego has taken its toll on the sport as well. Paes/Bhupathi along with their fathers made such a farce in last Olympics. The way both camps treated each other and Sania Mirza was really sad. Bopanna knows that he has to partner Paes but he is just taking a leaf out of Paes' handbook and is ensuring that he gets to partner Hingis and not Paes. (IMHO for Mixed Doubles, Mirza should have complete freedom to chose her partner. She has earned it).
  15. They havent played enough Davis Cup ties (according to Wikipedia)
  16. 1) Take the case of archery where all selections are done with trials. Some time back, Deepika missed a lot of time on international circuit as she failed in trials. Her replacements didnt do well and India was able to qualify for Rio only after Deepika came back. 2) In Shooting, almost all the top shooters have repeatedly underscored that there is a big difference in scoring high in trials and shooting in big competitions. Hence, while selecting team, only trial scores should not be considered. 3) Fear of outrage. Imagine the media/fan outrage if there are trials and some relatively unknown wrestler defeats Yogeshwar Dutt in that trial. Having said this, I personally believe, that as our bench strength improves, we should move towards trials. But, the rule should be clear before qualification process starts.

  18. Just like last Uber Cup Semis. Hopefully this time result would be different
  19. There is no danger of Mirza dropping out of top 10, so we are assured of a pair in WD. For doubles, NOC can choose any two players as a pair. Combined ranking of the pair is equal to sum of their individual rankings (better ranking between MS and MD is used for each individual). Pairs win quota based on this combined ranking. There is no chance for second pair in MD as apart from Bopanna no one is ranked high enough. Bopanna/Paes might also be on edge of qualification if both of them dont do well in French Open. If Bopanna manages to reach top 10, he can chose Bhupathi instead of Paes but IMHO it would be a case of cutting one's nose to spite the face. Also, its next to impossible to find any reliable simulation rankings for doubles as there are just too many combinations
  20. This should be a lesson to others to participate in repechage even if there is no quota for third place. Also, lets see if UWW allows us to send Babita to Olympics or not.
  21. 2 more quotas to India. Was expecting 0-1 quota in Greco-Roman and we got 2 quotas
  22. Because it isn't an Olympic event
  23. For singles, Yuki would need a large number of withdrawals and/or good performance at French Open to rise 50 odd places to qualify. Not sure about Wild cards. To be honest, I think Paes/Bopanna are on the edge of qualification themselves. Hopefully, Bopanna would improve his ranking and enter top 10 to win the quota directly. No chance for second pair in MD
