Qualification Tracker

Test

  1. 1) I think Ihab's B sample is yet to be tested. At present, we don't even know if he will be banned or not. 2) According to Road to Rio website, 38 athletes (including Ihab, excluding Russians) achieved the Olympic standard in Javelin throw against Target number of 32. Neeraj is ranked 5th among the athletes not qualified giving him effective ranking of 43. So, for him to qualify atleast 11 athletes above him have to test positive or decline the quota. 3) Even then, it is possible that IAAF will not invite anyone new, citing deadline for team nominations is over.
  2. Barring a few, those are the official numbers only. And considering that this list has been fairly accurate till now, its safe to assume that for remaining countries also error would be 1-2 athletes only (a rejected quota here, a wild card there).
  3. You can find quota details for all the countries here
  4. I am reading Sandeep Tulsi Yadav's name as the other wrestler who tested positive. Are you sure about him being Narsingh's spare partner? Or is he the Greco-Roman Wrestler who had won a World Champiosnhips Bronze couple of years ago?
  5. There are no Wild Cards at all in Athletics. There are only qualified athletes (by meeting standards or via ranking) and universality quotas. IAAF is not going to create an exception for Neeraj or any other athlete. If they allow Neeraj, it will open a pandora's box as all junior champions will also ask to be included, there are a number of athletes who met Rio standard after deadline, they will also cry foul (rightly). So, AFI should not waste their time in trying to get a wild card for Neeraj because IAAF will not agree.
  6. Too many unknowns. Russia is not banned yet. Deadline for Rio nominations is already over. Quota place redistribution for some sports is easy (ranking based like Badminton/Tennis etc.) but for some it could be nightmare (for example Shooting). So, for the time being, I am assuming that there will be no more quotas for India via reallocations. If we get some, consider them bonus.
  7. Hopefully, his B sample would be found clean. I hope it is a mistake by someone, as the two other alternatives are really sad. If he did dope, it puts a question mark over almost the whole team as majority of them train together. If there is deliberate foul, it has to be from Sushil camp and I don't want to lose respect for India's only 2 time individual Olympic medallist.
  8. Yup, I was wrong. It is 800 gms only
  9. What temperament from Neeraj! He must have been devastated at missing out on Olympics but bounced back in tremendous form. P.S. Dont compare his throw with Olympic standard and London throws as here Javelin would have been lighter
  10. Gold for India along with World Junior Record. Surely must be first gold and first WJR for us.
  11. Though Indian cycling is improving a lot, we need to take these rankings with a bucket of salt. We have zero participation in the ongoing Junior World Championships. These rankings probably don't mean much. Almost all of our points are from Asian level events and IIRC we didn't win a medal at this year's Asian Junior Championships. (Maybe Deborah won a medal but I don't remember)
  12. Since, three teams are tied at 2 points each, first tie break is applied (Set score). Danes and Chinese have +2 set score and Japanese have +1 set score. At this stage, Japanese are eliminated as they have the worst set score. Now, only 2 teams are left tied. Hence, H2H is used as tie-break. Danes defeated Chinese in their match and hence are ranked higher. P.S. It was this second position in group for Chinese team that led to comical matches and eventual disqualification of 4 teams and an unexpected and lucky bronze for Russians
  13. Its really tough to judge as there are a number of 53 kg lifters in the start list. Apart from Tanasan, we also have Margarita from KAZ (PB of 202 in 53 and 194 in 48), Piron Candelarion from DOM (PB of 199 kg in 53) and Paratova from UKR (PB of 202 in 53).
  14. Thanks. So, its like MQS in Shooting.
  15. Algeria should have 1 swimmer. There must have been some mistake by FINA. I am sure that when your federation will point it out to FINA, they will correct it. If very small microscopic island called "sandwich" have 3 or 4 swimmers that means those 3 or 4 swimmers either got A standard or were high enough on ranking list to be invited with B standard and hence, they deserve to be in Rio.
  16. I dont know why FINA persists with B standard. It just creates confusion. I am sure there are multiple swimmers with B standard in all events who are not qualified (same as London). Why not just have A standard and then fill remaining quotas (after Relay and Universality quotas) with best from the rest.
  17. Every country which participated in last year's World Championships is entitled to one swimmer in Rio under Universality across all events. Its not cheating, it is FINA ensuring diversity in participation.
  18. India will face Spain in Davis Cup World Group Play-offs
  19. Official Indian team : Link
  20. Khadi Gramodyog?
  21. China had 3 pairs in top 8 in WD. BWF assumed that China would chose top 2 pairs resulting in Zhao Yunlei being selected in two events, which would create an additional quota in WS, which was allocated to Lithuania. This quota was always conditional as can be seen by the official BWF document quoted below: China had to confirm that it will use two quotas in WD by May 31 and announce its team by 18 July. China never said that it will select Zhao/Tian. China didn't make any change. Though sad for Lithuanian player, she must have been prepared for this. And blaming China (or BWF) for this is simply wrong.
  22. Srikanth as well.
  23. Couple of nice reads about our Rio stars: Yogi Dutt: http://indianexpress.com/article/sports/rio-2016-olympics/yogeshwar-dutt-wrestling-wrestler-patriot-philosopher-pehelwan-2920277/ Mirabai Chanu: http://indianexpress.com/article/sports/rio-2016-olympics/mirabai-chanu-sleepless-in-patiala-2916910/ Manu Attri/Sumeeth Reddy: http://indianexpress.com/article/sports/rio-2016-olympics/the-goodfathers-sumeeth-reddy-manu-attri-2918738/
  24. Relay squads: 4x400m Men: Anas, Arokia, Dharun, Kunhumohammed, Mohan Kr. Sumit Kumar; 4x400m Women: Nirmala, Poovamma, Anilda, Jisna, Debashree, Ashwini.
  25. Nice concept but not sure how successful it would be considering the huge time difference
