    You could say the same about any given field competition. Top 8 long jumpers can just decide to go back to the Olympic village.

    Denmark qualifies again, a little against the odds since they got relegated to the European Division C (!) after Pyeongchang. Hopefully the Danish teams will be a bit more competitive in Beijing than they were in Pyeongchang. At least the Dupont's win over Canada remained memorable.

    Total meltdown from the Czech team. Incredible. Went from 4:1 up after 5th, to 5:8 down after 9th.

    Vietnam is back into the monobob qualifying spot, but her chances are slim since she smartly missed some races at the Whistler barbaric track.

    Because they had a WC regular last season. Apparently everyone was pretty clueless about the qualification system, so just sending a skier for the whole tour guaranteed you multiple spots. Same with Latvia in the women's events. Latvia will likely have 5 (!!) female skiers in the final analysis. Maybe 6, if Bendika decides to start in the relay.

    Absolute zero. Pretty sure the Dutch federation will dump them both after this season. Surely they must have realized by now that they got scammed here.

    This is a most curious thing. American athlete Leah Fair is a pretty good starter, but her down-times have been "suspect" all week, as John Morgan would say. Seriously though, she is half a second faster at start than Galea and Nguyen, and yet her runs are up to one second slower.     That would be my conclusion, yes. Leaves no room for another interpretation.

    Van der Poel will start in both distances and that's fine. However, if another athlete who qualified in both 5/10k for example decides to start only in the 5k, then the qualification system allows the 10k starting place to be assigned to another athlete from the same nation, even if that other athlete was nowhere near qualifying by himself. That is my issue with the qualification system.

    What a ridiculous system. Sadly it's still possible for one athlete to earn more than one spot for their NOC.
