  1. The number of points had more weight than occurrence in this analysis. Denmark has awarded 43 points more than Lithuania has returned. Your personal most toxic relationship has indeed been with the United States. They owe you 65 points (3.82 per edition, that sounds massive).
  2. How are ties broken? If by the best single result, then Aščić already did enough to overtake Czech Republic on tie-break, what is potentially enough... 27th place would overtake Christie, what would surely be enough? EDIT: Apparently the ties are broken by the last result, meaning we win this one over CZE. Still maybe nothing changes as that CZE quota may be coming from the 1500 m.
  3. Aščić will contest 26th-30th ranking finals (38-15 pts) for 500 m. I guess it's likely not enough whatever the outcome.
  4. Why is ISU hiding the World Cup standings in 500/1500 m events? At any rate, Valentina Aščić advanced today and secured top 35 (min 10 points). Probably not enough by itself, but she gave herself a fighting chance for tomorrow...
  5. Didn't @bestmen accuse you of being a Tunisian once or twice? I think I can remember it.
  6. And they did it! They scored 44.18 in Poland, meaning Lithuania will compete in figure skating after all.
  7. In another plot twist, Vietnam is entered for the two-man event too... with two different crews!! What on earth is happening? Did Vietnam just decide to start their Winter program with sliding of all things?
  8. Now here is something I wanted to do for a long while, but never got around to doing it... Until this week. And it was done much sooner than expected. I wanted to apply this interesting Eurovision Song Contest analysis on TISC. It's about detecting the strongest two-sided ('collusion') and one-sided voting patterns in TISC history. And oh boy, the results are interesting. First up are the two-sided ('collusion') voting patterns. These pairs of nations have exchanged many more points than it is statistically probable assuming the random distribution. Of course, users don't vote randomly, the random simulations were just used to find the strongest connections. And down below are the results. The program ran 10,000 random simulations of TISC, and to appear on this map, the nations must have exchanged more points in reality than they did in 9500 or more (95%+) of these 10k random simulations. There are some definite cultural relationships here (MDA-ROU, AZE-TUR, CZE-SVK). Some relationships are extremely strong though. DEN-NZL, for instance, have exchanged more points in reality than they did in quite literally any of the 10k random simulations. I mean, we already knew this, but #RelationshipGoals am I right? Two-sided voting patterns - click to enlarge And here are the most one-sided relationships of TISC... Maybe I should have used a stricter criteria, or maybe TISC is just full of doomed relationships? Either way, I hope the map below is readable enough. Probably the most one-sided TISC relationship has been MDA-SRB. Moldova has awarded 110 points to Serbia (11.0 per edition, including their last 7 gold medals), while Serbia has only 'returned' 26 points. Other most one-sided affairs are CRO-AUS, EGY-GER, EGY-IRL, GUY-TUN, KAZ-AUS, KAZ-CHN, NOR-NED, SUI-IRL. One-sided voting patterns - click to enlarge And finally, this analysis was possible only because, at long last, the complete voting history is finally in one place. If you would like to see your nation's complete voting history, do not hesitate to ask. Only the combined votes are available for multi-juries right now, though.
  9. It's ridiculous, but I guess Slovakia doesn't have enough resources to control people who leave their appartment? Especially given the low vaccination rate.
  10. As ever, the million dollar question is if Crni has improved his shooting this year. What am I really hoping for is one outstanding shooting performance to help the OQ.
  11. A group of nations who always awarded some points to the winning song. still have the perfect record (out of 58 all-time participants).
  12. Yeah, we kind of forgot that both are still in the Committee. And since they both voted for the winner, unlike Italy, the Committee lives on!!
  13. Meh, they (the Canadian curling teams) were terrible in Korea.
  14. You can find @Wumo's excel sheet with votes somewhere towards the end of discussion.
  15. Really cool to see on the monobob entry list for the NorAm Cup in Park City. Of course, their speed on training runs has been... pedestrian.
  16. Well, maybe @Olympian1010 would be interesting in making a logo retroactivelly.
  17. Medal table... Not winning with 8 gold medals is insane. But remember, Italy won with only one gold medal. Sweden 8 1 4 New Zealand 3 4 1 Czechia 3 4 0 Canada 3 1 1 China 3 1 0 Denmark 2 1 5 France 2 1 4 Serbia 2 1 0 Vietnam 2 1 0 Italy 2 0 2 Ukraine 1 3 2 Hungary 1 2 1 Spain 1 2 0 Germany 1 1 0 Moldova 1 0 1 Argentina 1 0 0 Slovakia 1 0 0 United States 0 2 2 Brazil 0 2 1 Ireland 0 2 1 Portugal 0 2 0 Indonesia 0 1 2 Croatia 0 1 1 Great Britain 0 1 1 Lithuania 0 1 1 Romania 0 1 1 Greece 0 1 0 Netherlands 0 0 2 India 0 0 1 Malta 0 0 1 Mexico 0 0 1 Poland 0 0 1 Bulgaria 0 0 0 Colombia 0 0 0 Kazakhstan 0 0 0 Israel 0 0 0 Slovenia 0 0 0
  18. According to the result sheet, Elana Meyers-Taylor placed 7th in the two-woman race today... Whilst competing in a monobob! https://www.ibsf.org/en/component/events/event/501696
  19. I think an internal criteria was in question here.
  20. New PB for Leona today. And with this result, she is sitting pretty inside the WCSL Top 30. This actually unlocks us an extra quota for Beijing (for now).
  21. And lastly, the unpopular STOP THE COUNT! Award is presented to the last non-winning leader - Sweden.
  22. First of all, I say congratulations to our host @Dnl for making it happen! Israel did not score many points (only 9, how dare you people??). That must have been heartbreaking for our host. Right now I am so glad I contributed to this total with my 3 points. Nice song, I like the ending note the most. And just to showcase my definitely non-mainstream taste, this is how my favorites fared. Earlier on I outlined my personal top 4 as songs that I found exceptional compared to the rest. 12 - - 28th place 11 - - 19th place 10 - - 22nd place 9 - - 18th place I never saw Argentina being the highest ranked of these four. As for Croatia, we get a top half finish for the first time since the pandemic started. Top half finishes are not easy to come by. Therefore I am pleased for Vatra and their hit Tango. But once again I feel we got stuck in our drawer. 17th place? We already posted that rank once before. 77 points? We already achieved that score twice before (both times with Zsa Zsa lol). There was also an edition where we scored 78 points. And another one with 81 points. So I can only 'quote' Marilyn Monroe "I'm through with TISC, I'll never vote again"...
  23. Looks like mid-80s will be enough for a Top 10... It was easier than ever, and yet...
