  1. I really don't think that's possible. just not Iranian thing to rely much on the Iranian diaspora , only very few athletes born/raised outside of Iran managed to have success. or inspire the rest for something new. I think the only way is someone makes Ice rinks here. btw I just took a look at their website and they are a member of ISU and also IIHF alongside with FIRS. quite busy as a single federation
  2. You still need Ice Rink for that. don't you ? either in your country or you need someone to sponsors you having long term camps outside the country .none of them are possible for now in current situations. sports not in Olympics or Asian Games program won't get money from the government. PS: Roller sport is in this year AG program but only with two events and that's just a one time thing. and the Skating federation here couldn't even convince the NOC to send them to Jakarta.
  3. not a "thing" . just another sport people don't really care about and never makes the headlines. but at least they have a separate federation called "Skating Federation" makes them a bigger "thing" than likes of Baseball at least ! there is no Ice Rink here. and nobody really cares about the "Winter Olympics" to think seriously about moving the whole sport to the ice !
  4. Actually Iran won the men's individual compound gold medal but Yeah India is also very good in compound and will hurt from dropping compound events. as I said Iran will win more or less the same number of medal. 20 gold medals was enough for 4th place in 2010 and 21 was enough for 5th place in 2014 and there was a good margin between Iran and 6th place Thailand but I think this time that number of gold medals won't be enough for top 5 !! Thailand will win lots of golds with these new sports. Pencak Silat alone will give 7-8 gold medals to Indonesia and probably 3-4 to Thailand. and Thailand is pretty good in Paragliding. so I think Thailand has a good chance to even challenge Kazakhstan for 4th place. Thailand is also good in women's martial arts. and now China is banned. Thailand will also dominate the women's weightlifting. and Sambo and Kurash will give so many gold medals to Central Asian countries. Kurash is the national sport of Uzbekistan. for example these new sports won't be good for you guys in India, I might be wrong but I can't see any gold medal for India in all these new sports. and dropping some shooting events will hurt India even more. 1 China 2-3 Korea, Japan 4-5 Kazakhstan, Thailand 6-8 Iran, Indonesia, Uzbekistan 9-11 India, Chinese Taipei, North Korea
  5. I can analyze Iran's chance sport by sport or even athlete by athlete but what will be long and boring for other users. but in summary we won 21 gold medals in 2014 and 20 in 2010. I expect more or less the same this time. probably a bit less because two of our top sports wrestling and Taekwondo are not in great situation. still some of these new sports. mostly Sport CLimbing and Kurash can make up for that. even in weightlifting we could win more golds because of suspensions of China and Kazakhstan. here is my prediction about the number of gold medals for Iran 4-5 in Wrestling 2-3 in Weightlifting 2-3 in Karate 1-2 in Taekwondo 1-2 in Rowing 1 in Sport Climbing 1 in Wushu 1 in Athletics 1 in Kurash 1 in Volleyball 2-3 in Other sports, Shooting, Basketball, Canoeing, Archery, Fencing, Judo, Cycling, Jujitsu
  6. well yeah. there are so many extra events . specially this year. Indonesia completely ruined the competition by adding Bridge, Pencak Silat, Paragliding, Dragon Boat and Jet Ski ! we also have Sambo, Kurash and Ju-jitsu. I would drop all of them plus Soft Tennis . the only good addition IMO is Sport Climbing. but even in Sport Climbing, we won't have a normal 6 events program. we will have combined event, speed and speed relay ! guess why ? because Indonesia is only good in speed events ! there are so many bad things in this current program. they dropped 3 heaviest weight in Boxing !! 75kg will be heaviest weight in Boxing !! they also wanted to drop super heavy weight in Weightlifting and Karate but at least this time the Asian Federation didn't let them . another funny thing is we will have team compound events but not individual events !!! I never heard such thing, having the team event but not the individual event !! we have the same situation in Paragliding Cross-country events ! but the biggest change is in Shooting program, we used to have team events for all individual events. that was a good idea to drop them all. China and Korea will lose lots of easy gold medals. still China, Korea and Japan will be in top 3. even though this time Japan probably stands a chance to surpass Korea. but it will be hard to predict the rest of the table because of so many new events we will have. I believe Kazakhstan is still the favorite for the 4th place . I won't surprise if Indonesia or most probably Thailand beat the rest for the 5th place. the new events are mostly good for these two countries plus Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
  7. Team sports draw http://aroundtherings.com/site/A__63931/Title__COR-makes-debut-in-Asian-Games-draw/292/Articles and we will have this COR (unified Korean team) idea in women's basketball. they have a good chance to medal. we will see this stupid COR idea in medal table I wonder what format they want to use in volleyball with 6 groups ! AVC is inventing weird formats recently.
  8. IWF announced new weight classes , non-Olympic weights in bold Men: 55, 61, 67, 73, 81, 89, 96, 102, 109, +109 Women: 45, 49, 55, 59, 64, 71, 76, 81, 87, +87 so say goodbye to all current world records.
  9. I just finished watching the match, I think Piroddu will remember this for a while, he gave up two takedowns both of them on his own attack. he could easily score on both but instead he gave up points ! I think the first action was definitely a 2 and not 4. cuz the action started on the ground. that wasn't a 4pts throw. and the last action was also just one point pushout . that was no way a takedown. they used to penalize these kind of actions as fleeing with 2pts + caution but if I'm not wrong the new rules say 1pts + caution ! (they change the rules day to day so even for me it's hard to be up to date about the rules ) but I didn't understand what happened after the challenge , they removed the caution and gave the challenge thing back to the Italian coach !! if their challenge was wrong (which it was) they should gave another point to the Uzbek guy. and yeah success in cadet level doesn't necessarily mean success in Junior/Senior levels. specially in Greco because Greco is less technical. but this kid has the talent, i believe he has a Greco background, he needs more experience in freestyle competition to not lose the single leg twice. this semifinal was his match to lose.
  10. Iran won the team title in World Freestyle Cadet Championship in Croatia. finally a bit success for our freestyle program ! even though winning 3 out of 10 gold medals is not something to celebrate too much but some of these kids did great and that was the first team title for Iran after 22 years ! USA and Russia finished 2nd and 3rd in team ranking . I wonder if Iran already seleceted the wrestlers for the Youth Olympics (cuz Iran qualified 3 wrestlers and have to pick 2) but if not Zare at super heavyweight deserves one of the spots. other two guts won silver and bronze ,it will be hard to pick any of them. btw Italy also won a bronze medal in men's freestyle by a home grown wrestler. which was interesting and the Italian kid almost made it to the final. he lost narrowly to the eventual gold medalist from Uzbekistan (if I'm not wrong)

  13. It is commonly said that what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. I wonder if this match makes Belgium stronger , A real title contender Japan played great. just great but that was stupid to attack in last minute with so many players against such dangerous team. you have to learn to park the bus sometimes.
  14. that's NBA player Thon Maker I'm sure he didn't know how to fight before today. btw I wonder if FIBA suspends Filipino players. at least some of them deserve that. specially their star player Castro. and guess who is their next opponent in next round ? Iran we also have them in our group for the Asian Games. sooooo I'm not against any kind of suspensions for them this is terrible that our loss to Iraq will carry forward to the next round even though Iraq is eliminated ! even though I think we need only two more wins to qualify. but Japan looks scary the way they played in this 3rd window.
  15. well refs disqualified 9 Filipino players ! and with only 3 left we had 5 vs 3 basketball for few minutes before the remaining players fouling out intentionally ! what a shame
  16. since the match was "very interesting" I was almost sleeping on my couch before the commentator screamed for the penalty
  17. Karate quotas for the 2nd day. Men's -61: Men's -68: Men's +68: Women's -53: Women's -59: Women's +59:

  19. Shame on Japan now they are wasting time !!! against such a poor Polish team. it's not like they are playing Brazil ! now I won't get upset if Senegal scores.
  20. I don't think so. Japan has two yellow cards less 1+2+1 for Japan 2+3+1 for Senegal
  21. what about giving 30 spots to Europe + Brazil and Argentina and kill the rest of the world ? that would be fair I guess . why the rest of the world even exists ?! btw I'm a big fan of Italy. I love Italy NT more or less the same as Iran but they deserve to "not qualify" when they picked someone like Ventura to lead the team.
  22. and you can make fun of them when they lose. but I was reading the forum during Panama-ENG match and even during that match someone was complaining about the number of Asian teams ! even Saudi Arabia wasn't that disastrous after the first match.
  23. well done Korea. but yeah I know people still make fun of Asian teams even when Panama lose by 6 goals. and who says Sweden can't beat Mexico ? they did actually but I'm glad Mexico got lucky at the end. they deserved a little luck after winning 2 matches.
  24. Congrats for the qualification but seriously out of all those accidents "all of them called against Iran" you picked this one to complain about ? Ronaldo's penalty was 50/50 at best. and there were 2-3 accidents in your box beside that penalty. 1 or 2 them were very suspicious. and above all so many people believe your Ronaldo should get a red card which would end his World Cup. cuz such red cards usually mean 2-3 matches ban. you are very lucky to have him in the next round. and that was a handball. that's the rule. if you raise your hand and touch the ball that's a foul. that was a cheap penalty I know but that's the rule. btw good luck for the rest of the tournament. people like Portugal here because of Queiroz.
  25. Taremi Taremi Taremi Taremi Taremi he broke 80 millions heart tonight by missing that almost one-on-one chance in extra time. as when he missed that header against Spain. either of them could send us to the next round . he was crying like a baby after the match, I just hope fans don't be harsh on him. to me he played great despite missing big big chances in these two matches. and what about the ref ? looks like VAR is only there to help the big teams, there were 3 accidents in Portugal's box and if that Ronaldo's dive was a penalty, then they were penalty as well. but the funniest thing was the extra time. we had 3 VAR review in 2nd half, each one of them wasted at least 3 minutes plus that was a tense game full of fouls and protests. still he gave us only 6+1 minutes ! and Ronaldo was lucky to get away with a yellow after elbowing Pourali-G. even though I believe that was the correct decision but still any other player would get a red card for that. ppffff. so this is it. our players gave their everything in such a tough group. even Morocco was the best African team. to me all of them did their job and they were great. I didn't expect more but damn we were close this time. really close
